Moog strings equivalent?

Post by la_panza » Fri Feb 05, 2010 8:21 am

Hello all, just got a Black Moog E1, it's certificate reports number E 28.

Now, after having run out my saving to buy it, I'm looking for more available / more affordable strings.. in Italy moog strings are virtually impossible to find at a reasonable price.. I've tried ErnieBall 009 series but they are noticeably weaker than the original strings in sustain..

D'addario seem to be a little better (the manual also suggests D'addario and GHS as a surrogate...) is there any European /Italian guitarist who has experience an easy-to-find not-too-expensive string type for the E1?

Thanks in advance

This might not be of much help...

but ive put 11-49 elixir nanoweb strings on my moog recently, and am really enjoying it. No, they aren't cheap (but neither was the guitar, and they last a long time) and IMHO they sound better than the moog strings in most situations. True, they don't sustain (quite) as hard, but the difference is subtle and I find the overall improved guitar tone to outweigh the 5% difference in sustain.

plus I live in australia and don't think I could be bothered to ship moog strings from the US anyway.

Just a thought!
