Piezo blend FAIL!

Hi Moogers...

So I bought the E1-M and it finally arrived... Out of the box it was unplayable (open strings were even buzzing!) so I had it set up. It came back muck better but still a little buzzy, but hey, that's a trade off I guess for playability.

Problem now is the Piezo blend only works properly at either full clockwise (off) and full anti-clockwise (on). Anywhere in between and the D string is HALF the volume of all other strings.. This really blows because I like the sound i get when the Piezo Blend is 1/2 way. I can sort of fix it with a compressor and when i use other effects, it's not too noticeable. NOT THE POINT... I'd like my $3k guitar to work solid like all my other Moog gear..

This is my first guitar with a Piezo pup so I'm not sure if there is an adjustment to be made or it's FAILED already.. Any one else noticed this or had other Piezo problems?

Thanks Moogs...

I'll check mine tonite to be sure, but i don't think that's normal, you may have a busted one.

Thanks Cliffman!

That would be great! When I use the neck pickup and 50% Piezo, the D string is way low in volume...
Also, does ur guitars filter modes work on the BRIDGE pickup? Mine doesn't :-/

These are the two small probs I'm having with an otherwise cool guitar!

Thanks again Cliffman...

Ps: can anyone else please verify that theirs are fully working? Ta...

If your filter isn't working on all settings, contact Moog and get it fixed/replaced. These problems don't sound normal, and unfortunately, lemons do slip out or something gets damaged in shipping.

Thanks mhuxtable... I didn't think it was normal. I got an email from tech support stating that the volumes of each string should vary slightly (on all moog guitars) at mid blend because of phasing issues. I sent a sound clip to tech support so hopefully they can hear what I'm hearing too.

The neck and in/out phase pickup selection is where you can really notice it. Especially when recording. The waveform is all over the shop :?

Thanks for the replys...

Hi again,

James @ Moog has been working with me to try to solve this problem.. He says that the filter does not work on the bridge because this pickup selection (5) bypasses the circuit board and is pure piezo. I wasn't aware of that so if anyone else's guitar is the same, this is normal :D

I've been very happy with tech support (James) so far, seeing as I'm way over here in Sydney! I will post back when I have my results

Thanks again,

Tong.

Hello forum...

IF ANYONE IS READING THIS AND HAS A MOOG GUITAR, PLEASE TRY YOUR ONE AND POST BACK HERE ASAP!!
I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT MY PROBLEM IS NORMAL ACCROSS ALL MOOG GUITARS.

I really don't think this is the case, so if others could verify that their guitar works fine with 50% PIEZO BLEND, that would be a great help!!! My one, the strings volume greatly vary betwee strings: eg; A string is super loud, D string gets super quiet, B sting is same as A... Basically I can't use the blend knob cos the difference in volumes is ridiculous!! It's fine at 100% OFF and fine at 100% ON... Just the blend is what I'm after...

PLEASE PLEASE HELP.... I have no other people in Sydney Australia that I can compare guitars with :| If you can test your one for me, I will be greatly appreciative!!!

Thanks fellow Moogers...

DOH!

My bad... Apparently it's only the guitars with the MIDI option. Either way, I'd still like to know it yours does the same. Also, please specify if you are using the E1 or E1-M...

Thanks again people :D

Sigh, ugh
http://soundcloud.com/theminibubbas/moogguitarpiezo

Here's an example. I never used the piezo blend, because when I first tried it, i though "This really sounds sucky" but I didn't get into the details..
Moog E1, hardtail, MIDI output added later at the factory.

Sigh, once again an issue with the beast. A+ for the idea, C- for the execution, Moog.

Thanks Cliffman!

I see this is a problem on all MIDI guitars by Moog. It's no massive bummer but I guess I would have preferred a switch... And a Vo switch too...

I agree with you on that one Cliffman; A for the idea but a C for execution... Oh well, it still works fine for now...

Thanks again for all your help! :D
