I thought about synthesizing the drums as well, but I decided not to do this. This way it gets more of a "band" feel I think. And making a funky snare on the LP might be problem ;)

Right now I'm using the LP more and more, almost every part in every track I make I moog now! This synth is so freakin' awesome!

And once again, a very warm THANK YOU for the the comments!

Awesome. Cool track. There's a heck a lot to be said for limiting yourself - choosing one, two or a bunch of instruments and sticking exclusively to them - all too underrated in this day and age of unlimited tracks and trillions of plugins etc.

Don't mean to hijack, but regarding using the phatty for drums - I can provide an example of drums synthesised on the LP - towards the end of this track... (starting about 2:45) for what it's worth :D .

I agree with limiting yourself can be very productive/creative. I used to download all synths for "free" but I discovered I was far more productive and creative when limiting myself to the things I actually owned, which was/is much less.

And I listened to your track, sounds great in general, but the phatty snare is totally awesome :)

My god! Amazing stuff. I have to program a sound like that bass, it's soo funky.

Yeah it's P-Funk 2001, hell yeah.

I actually created an account just for this, though I do own a Phatty :D

It's an honour for me you registered just for this comment! Basic idea for the sound of the bass is hsving OSC 1 at 16" and OSC2 at 4". And the modulation put to OSC 2 only. To keep the lows tight :)

I think I don't have this exact sound anymore right now. Editing too much ;) But it shouldn't be too difficult to make. I do think I still have the "wobble" and the lead sound with the amplitude envelope of a piano. The C64 like sound is too easy too program to store.. Faster to program then to search for it ;)

But again, thanks a lot for registering to tell me this!

JWaltman wrote:Hi,

I made a kind of space funk song, first song I made using only the LP, including the writing process. All tracks were played and recorded, and after that deciding what would fit with it. So no poly synths used at all :)

Drums are from logic, all others sounds from my beloved phatty.

Vocals will be added in the future ;)

...yep, really well done. Phatty sounds alive! .... I remember reading back a bit about some very successful ($) keyboardist, who, after spending some of his $$$ on every conceivable unit, found it almost impossible to work with that many "choices"... so, perhaps, limiting yourself to just a few instruments (or one, ) can indeed be a great way to compose...

After working a while with the phatty now, and because of it ditching my other synths (no pussy's, MKS80 and Prophet08, stopped using m) I think I know why I love this synth so much.

After working with loads of synths the thing that stood out for me the most on the LP (maybe every moog) is the mixing engine of the OSC. It makes both OSC fight for their piece of amplitude, and then including the overdrive.. just wow.. this synth is just so alive! Of course the filter is lovely (I love the 1 poly.. DIRTY!) but the amplifying part is the most loved part for me. I can feel the detune, instead of only hearing it.

Even though I now have the LP for a year or so now.. Every time I play it, the LP makes me have a big smile on my face, like when I play a new fantastic synth I own, EVERY TIME! This is the first synth I had or have played which is such a joy to play with, to experiment with, to enjoy it's sounds, enjoying the interface, it just keeps getting me excited to play more music!

Dear moog, I love you :)

Very well done!
I like the song as is (without the not yet added vocals). :D
This is very much the type of Moog music I like!

Thanks for this great tune!

Very nice.

How about some more sick lead instead of vocals? :D

Amazing stuff!

Reminds me of the synth bassline in Parliament's Flashlight. And that's my favourite bassline of all time!

Btw, could someone recommend me more music in the vein of this instrumental synth-driven funk?

P.S. Liked the second tune as well!
