How about a LP rack version

Post by frestrobbe » Fri May 07, 2010 5:27 pm

I wonder how many people would like a rack version (with some CV I/O's on the front) of the Little Phatty to be available?
I sure wouldn't mind, I still have some empty rack space :D

With comprehensive CV I/O then absolutely (it would presumably be quite a bit cheaper than the Voyager RME, and still all I need). Without the CV I/O, or with very limited CV options, much less interested.

I'd be happy with a voice expander module without any knobs at all ;)

I voted yes on a LPRME, but not without knobs.

I think a 'rack' Lp (or in a nice wood case) would be a welcome addition,
but understand it probably isn't simply a matter of parts >> case. There would
have to be a certain amount of engineering to pull it off well, and I doubt there's
much development time for it.
I would like to see cv jacks, etc.on the front though.

Or, maybe a modular approach.. Rack + 1 voice cardridge for 700, room for 3 more cardridges for 250 a piece... Or even better, room enough inside the phatty for extra voice boards.

That'd be awesome, I'd love to be able to poly-fy my LP without the need for extra cables and stuff.

I'd love to see a rack and/or desktop version of the LP. Extra CV would be great but wouldn't mind if it only came with standard as well.

A rack LP with option to expand polyphony internally would be brilliant, if it's technically possible.

While the Voyager RME is fantastic and already exists, I agree completely that a LP RME would definitely fill a cool niche in the product line, especially if they could find a way to swing it for ~$1k. I'm certain they could probably simplify the interface and electronics down into a 3 space rackmount. Adding a polychain feature would be fun too.

Honestly though, right now I think there are bigger ideas afoot. This may need to be put on the back burner until we get the next big announcement... :)

I'd be happy with a rackmount voice expansion module with no knobs, no menu, no screen... just cheap additional voices to control from the LP.

Yes, definitely useful, especially to get to some polyphony without having LP keyboards all over the place.

MUCH more interesting would be something like a LP 4/5-voice rack to get a five or 6 voice LP, especially if the price for a four-voice would stay around 3500€.
Don't know if that is possible, but from my view affordable polyphony is the next key step for Moog, this way or another.
