Step sequencing software?

Post by narrowcaster » Mon Jul 13, 2009 8:52 am

Hi Everyone,

I'm interested in getting into some old-school step sequencing with my LP. But I'd rather not invest in hardware, because of space and because I'll probably only do it occasionally. And I don't want to use the sequencer that's built into my Korg, or Cubase, because what attracts me is the simplicity of step sequencers.

So, does anyone make software emulations of step sequencers? Something that would be free-standing (not a plug-in if possible), and has an interface that invites real-time tweaking, and I guess outputs MIDI note values and CC numbers to drive pitch and other parameters. Does it exist? Thanks...

That looks perfect :D

But I should have also said that I run Windows XP :(

Is there something for that OS, or am I pooched?

I'm not familiar with one, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.

Numerology is a great piece of software. I used it a lot for a film I worked on recently. Controlling the Little Phatty, generating audio to be processed with my Moogerfoogers, or generating sequenced CVs by sending audio into the Envelope Follower on my Low Pass Filter.

You should also try Bankstep v2.1, it's like the old school modulars. Somewhat tricky to operate if you arent into that sort of stuff, but there is an extensive pdf. manuaul you can download. It's been really stable on my laptop as of yet! I think I got it from http://www.vstplanet.com

Speaking of VST, what kind of freeware host would you suggest a newbie to use? The "Step Machine v.0.901" looks interesting too!

There is a standalone called the "Chainer", it is a standalone vst host. Great for live applications, and layering if your PC has enough juice.

I'm referring to the sequncers suggested in this tread... i already download them but don't know what the next step is. If you like you can PM me so we don't hijack the tread, but i feel the explanations may be useful for someone else here... thanx

Yes! Especially I would like to know whether I will be able to send the sequence to my (hopefully arriving on saturday) MP-201 via USB and then from there via MIDI or CV to the LPTE?
