Now I know where stone age sequencing comes from! Sounds a lot like von Haulshoven's stuff. Very cool! I noticed a lot of negative comments on the videos...something about how he stole the idea for his music from someone else and claimed he invented it? Whatever. He's hardly a household name anywhere, but most people who listen to electronic music have, I imagine, heard of him. Even in Montreal.
As someone just discovering the sounds of JMJ, I appreciate your opinion. I did like the bits of the Egypt concert he did in 1999-2000. He does some great visual effects as well. That, of course, is the point. He's a fine composer of well-crafted popular electronica verging on new age. I'd put him in the same category as Isao Tomita and Vangelis. Not terribly experimental, and not always, or even usually to my taste, but he does create nice, hummable, textured tunes that are useful in movie soundtracks.MarkM wrote:I would have to agree somewhat with Extra.
