Would anybody like to review the Phatty Stage on Sonic State

Post by Tangsonghe » Thu Dec 04, 2008 6:21 pm

Hiya, don't know if any Phatty Stage users use the Sonic State
website for checking out synth reviews. I wrote a technical
introduction to the Phatty Stage back in July but so far nobody
has come forward with any user reviews for the LP Stage. Anybody
feel like gushing some enthusiasm or otherwise for the benefit of others?

Gladly! There's not a single bad thing about the LP, as far as sound goes. It has that great Moog filter that gives the Little Phatty it's cutting tone. On top of that, if you were scared to buy a Stage I because of the cheap feeling keyboard (which I actually prefer) the Stage II has been given a significantly better keyboard. Also the Arpeggiator is simple to access and program. The only thing I find lacking, and just about everyone here will agree with me, is CV outs. It could really use them. But the audio in and CV ins work very well, as do the MIDI and USB jacks, so if you have a MIDI to CV converter, that would work as a CV out.

There are 100 presets which can be easily edited, although lowercase letters are not yet an option. They should be in the next OS upgrade. Some people may find the LP a bit expensive. Hogwash, I say. The fun factor itself is worth well over a grand. The ease of programming is unreal! Minimal knobs and plenty of buttons give you all the editing capabilities you need. Add a couple of Moogerfoogers for the ultimate Moog experience!

In short, the Little Phatty is the ultimate two oscillator synthesizer. Even though you can buy similar synths with more features for less money, you'll be missing out on the Moog sound, which is often imitated but NEVER duplicated.

Does that work?

Ah...good point! I can write a fan article, but it's hard for someone with a bias to write a review. Hmm...perhaps a Moog forum is not a good place to find reviewers.

There's nothing wrong with glowing reviews! Much better than
Sonic State offering no user reviews at all........you can enter
your user review manually using the following link

http://www.sonicstate.com/synth_reviews ... _stage.cfm

Agree. And it can look very much like a fan article. Especially if it is a good object being reviewed.
Still there is a difference.
