obviously if you have the LP SE and you upgrade to the new OS, you could save your original factory patches through the librarian software... but, if, like myself, you're starting out with a Stage II, is there any way to get the Stage One factory set... I have found the factory presets an excellent way to study the signal path, as well as many of them being quite usable as starting points for original patches...and would like to be able to check out the prevous set.... thanks for any reply! - jgirv

The update for me wasn't very smooth...
I have a Mac, for the dump I used Sysex Librarian and an Edirol UM-550 midi interface...
The first time I tried to update to 2.0 I got the message FIRMWARE SX ERROR CODE 2... ...panic...
Then I tried again and... success! I did it!

The arpeggiator is awesome!
It feels a little strange playing chords on my LP though...

setting ARP enable = on

OK, now go back to Preset mode and press in on the Value knob.

Install went perfect, can't see any problems so far.
And the Arpeggiator kicks about ten different kinds of ass.
I could stay down here in the basement and play with it forever but it's beautiful out and the kids want to go for a bike ride so I must tear myself away for now.

I emailed this in, but here's what happened to me so others can read...

Hi Amos,

I encountered a problem during the update which I managed to work
around, but I thought I should share with you.

I have an Edirol UM-1 MIDI interface (switch set to Advanced Driver to
use the Edirol driver -- for which I have the latest drivers
installed), and ran the updater for Mac and followed instructions.
The UM-1 interface flashed the device and at Stage 1 reads

STAGE 1 ERROR
CYCLE POWER

Upon cycling power, it reads

SEND FIRMWARE SYSEX

At which point I can do the same again and I get the same message.

If I switch the MIDI interface to the non-advanced driver setting, I
get the same problem at the same point.

I managed to set things right by using the SysEx update method in
SysEx Librarian. (It's an Intel Mac -- 10.4.11)

Thanks very much for the update -- hopefully the above info proves useful.

Llamastorm, I had exactly the same problem. Same errors
and same way of fixing it. I have since found out that
I was using a plug with a dodgy ground (after updating
my knob values were moving around), but I'm not
sure if that's why the OS updater didn't work. Glad
you got there in the end.

I see you had an Edirol too. I posted a thread a while earlier about having some issues with that Midi interface in Logic, it might just be sketchy in general, I don't know.

Anyhow, it's rocking now.

Guys: I think there may be some sort of issue with the Edirol Midi interface; something to do with "active sensing" being on. We are working on how to ensure this is disabled during the firmware transfer. Until then, I am glad the workaround is working. For Windows users who are having similar problems, I will post a link (in the first post of this thread) to a DOS-based firmware updater which should work better with respect to these sorts of errors.

You might be able to do a Linux Live CD based on LiveCD-creator and get away from having to deal with DOS (being it's ancient and busted). That would be bootable on either Windows or Linux machines and work the same on both (without having to install any software on them).

Yum install "livecd-creator" if you are using Fedora.

I'm not sure how standard all the USB MIDI stuff is, but I think it would be fairly standard.

That may be a wild goose chase, but I thought I'd throw the idea out there.
