Funk Basses?

Post by DiggyDre » Fri Jul 07, 2017 2:17 am

Hey guys, I'm sitting here twisting the knobs on my Slim Phatty trying to cook up a few basses from a few old school West Coast / G-Funk tracks. The First one is from and Eazy-E song which to me sound like it has some resonance on it which gives it the type of attack that I hear at the beginning of each bass note. It's odd because it seems like as I add resonance I start to lose some of my low end but it can also be either I'm trying to make the patch the wrong way or they had a engineer that EQ'd and compressed the final version a certain way during the processing.

The second bass is very bassic. When I was a kid for some reason it sounded like a fart, lol. It is the bass from Dr. Dre's 1992 Chronic album son, Dre Day. I have gotten close to it but mine either seems like it has too much bite or not enough bite, it's not that "Just right" feel. But again, that can also be the way it was processed in the studio.

I will post the video links below but any tips will greatly be appreciated. I put my Moog down for about 6 months and now I'm getting back into it. :D
