Little phatty stage 2 modulation wheel sticky rubber

Hello,

I've seen a couple of posts regarding this matter but couldn't find a solution. My little phatty is 2 years old and I play it about once a week. I noticed that the modulation wheel kind of "melts" regarding its rubber feel. I have seen the same deterioration with other household devices (such as the rubber handles of coffee makers etc).

Is there a solution for this matter apart from finding + replacing the modulation wheel itself?

Regards,

Jim

I just noticed this with my LP Stage pitch/mod wheels. I wiped them with a damp cloth thinking it was a substance that got on them (a kid with sticky fingers?) but realized it wasn't going away and started feeling increasingly sticky as I wiped. I have been pressing clean sheets of paper on them and peeling them away, making them slightly less sticky, but has not solved the problem. Not sure, maybe we will have to wait for them to age more, moving to a stage where they "dry out?"

I just tried wintex + sharp knife and it seems that the sticky layer can be peeled off, probably to come back later in time. This material just dies, why do they keep using it?

The strange thing is that the pitch bend wheel is fine.

Maybe there could be a spray of some kind so that the material gets protected inside?

Perspiration Or petroleum products can degrade rubber. Sunlight too.

I have seen some resin sprays made for arts and crafts, I may just try a clear coat on it. Loads of products come up when I google for "clear coat spray".

When I do I will write back of course.

I would really like to hear from moog staff what we are supposed to do. It's a disgusting feeling, mine were not in contact with cleaning agents or sunlight, but the room gets hot (it's australia).

I found this article, but it all sounds pretty terrifying to do to a synthesizers.

Hey, thanks for posting this link.

I have already done the job with rubbing alcohol. It took away all the sticky rubber layer. The result is a glossy look instead of the rubber matte.

Cheers

Hello

I had the same issue with my little phatty. I have just successfully cleaned them using Goo Gone. Use a cotton-swab and soak it in Goo Gone, gently rub the Wheel a few time, do one side at a time (above and below central notch and the notch itself). Use a wet cloth and rubb it a few time then use the dry end and rub it again, repeat until the Wheel is not sticky anymore.

hope this help.

Had the same issue 3 years ago with my little phatty. I solved it in ordering new mod and pitch wheel online.
