Slim Phatty noob - pitch bend

I've been playing around with my new (used) Slim Phatty (SL), and enjoying it very much. However, the pitch bend seems off somehow. I am controlling it with a new Sledge 2, and only occasionally it seems like the SL has a delay in the start of the note.
I basically created a patch that sounds like the lead in Steve Winwood's "While You See a Chance" tune, and when I bend down to slide up to the note, there is a noticeable delay at times. When I switch to the Sledge and play exactly in the same manner (and sound), it sounds perfect, so it really is the SL (imo).
I think it only happens when I have the PB already down (engaged), press a note, and then release the PB to slide quickly up. It does work some of the time, but it is obvious when it fails
