Help diagnose a problem

Post by franklinstower » Fri Oct 09, 2015 1:54 pm

Ive got a new sub 37. I think the mod 2 has some issues but need to confirm.

If I hold mod 2 destination button down and tweak Oscillator 2's octave switch shouldn't that cause the mod 2 bus to make the octave switch rotate between octaves? I can get mod bus 1 to do it but cannot get bus 2 to do it.

Just tried it on mine and it works as expected with OSC 2 OCT being set as MOD 2's DEST.

If you press MOD 2's CONTROLLERS button and go into the MOD 2 EDIT menu, can you see the DEST change in there in realtime when you press the DEST button and move a knob?

One thought - the modulation is based on the current OSC 2 OCT position, so if it's set to 2' and you use something like a saw tooth with positive modulation, then it appears to have no effect because it's trying to add to a parameter that's already at the highest setting.

I went to the controllers menu and as expected it did show up as modifying Osc 2 -- but with no effect on the sound.

This is incredibly frustrating. This is the third sub 37 I have bought- they have all had problems. The unit I have now just got back from Moog and they told me there was nothing wrong with it. Sometimes mod 2 works and sometimes it doesn't.

I've attached a simple sysex patch that cycles OSC 2 OCT using MOD 2 - it would be interesting to see if this works for you or not.

As much as it hurts my ego to post this I have to do it. Nothing wrong with my Moog.

I was mistaken on the problem with my Moog. It is indeed working properly. I was not adjusting the mod amount knob enough to find the sweet spot where I could notice the modification. Completely my ignorance of how to use this synth-- partialy due to a tech confirming the problem over the phone but this also due to my inability to explain the problem sufficiently.

I did not want to write this but it is important not to give the wrong idea to potential buyers and so as not to hurt this great company that is producing wonderful instruments.

Thanks Moog.

Had to be done....

If you read my post history you'll find that I really struggled with purchasing a synth for the role of playing bass in my band. I even bought a 3500 dollar bass piano and later returned it because it did not fit for me. All I can say is that my Sub 37 is an amazing instrument and my appreciation of it is just growing over time. A synthesizer was not even on my radar when I first decided to play an instrument and it is doing for me what I think no other instrument could possibly do. I just want to do my part to ensure that this great company is around for a very long time.

Thanks to MOOG.
