Problems With First Moog: Unresponsive knobs - strange noise

Hi, I just bought a Slim Phatty. My first Moog.

It looks awesome and when I turn it on everything appears to work out fine, but I'm having big problems when I try to use it with my DAW (Ableton).

I have the midi connection established via usb. As soon as I insert an External Instrument in Live sending midi out to Slim Phatty in Ch. 1, the main knob in the Oscillators and Filter sections stop responding accordingly. That is: there is a huge delay/misconnection between the movement of the knob and the movement of the red light.
As soon as I close the DAW (or delete this channel with the external instrument midi-out) every knob works fine again. That is: the red light moves just fine as I turn the knob.

Also, I hear a weird noise coming of one of my speakers just as soon as I connect the Slim Phatty to the computer via USB (I don't know if this might be related). Tried different cables, and different usb ports in my Macbook; same noise.

Any input would be great.
