Slim Phatty DISCONTINUED...what's next?

I'm assuming most of you received the email from Moog today announcing the discontinuation of the Slim Phatty.

Anyone want to wildly speculate what will take its place?

Perhaps a poly-chainable rack version of the Sub37...

^That is exactly what I am hoping for and only makes sense but would not expect anything announced for a while or at least perhaps NAMM 2015 or so because Moog is still producing the Sub 37 Tribute Edition so it's really anyone's guess. Natural evolution of a small company making room for further growth and overhead for next thing.
For now, will totally enjoy my Sub 37 for the wonderful creation it is.

Yep, rack mountable, poly chainable, non knob-per-function variant of Sub37 sound engine totally makes sense. If they price is right (just like Sub37), it will sell like cakes! I'll get one for sure.

Well actually they are still not able to fullfill all the orders for the SUB37. So i don't know if they will introduce something new at Winter NAMM 2015. At least no synth. And if they do, i would not expext this unit to appear at retailers sooner than q4 2015.

Slim Phatty was BY FAR THE BEST synth module I have seen or heard in 35years of playing with synthesisers.

I entirely understand those who want one knob per function, good for them; But for the rest of us the Slim Phatty & Little Phatty was the only viable interface ever made.
Some of us don't like lots of fiddly little knobs, some of us like chunky grabbable knobs.
Some of us don't want more than four knobs because we only have four fingers and we can only count to four.
Some of us can't imagine life without the large disk of knob position tracking LEDs.
Some of us feel the Slim and Little Phatty was the best control interface improvement since cars replaced steering tillers with steering wheels.

And then there is the filter; I have never heard a filter like it before or since. It is the gold standard in music reviews that gives us the phrase "not quite as good as the Little Phatty filter"...oh yeah and what about POLY CHAIN...!!!!!!!!!

Slim Phatty DISCONTINUED...what's next? Well hopefully the Solar System will be sucked into a black hole in a single cosmic event known as Poetic Justice!

Without the Little Phatty, I would never have bought a Moog synth. From the moment I saw it, knew it would be mine. My LP Stage Edition looks like a SE II except for the back. I have the SE II upgrade and the metal front panel (paint of the original one was a little damaged).
I had no interest for the Slim Phatty until I saw the Poly Chain video's. I was charmed! I need to have one!!! I thought the LP and the SP would be produced for ever as they are the best ever to me. I was sad to read that the LP was discontinued. Now I'm profoundly sad to hear that it's happening to the SP as well. I don't have one yet!!! I need more time! If I had the money, I'd get two of them!

i dont think its a matter of the slim and little phatty being "unpopular" by any means. i think Moog knows they are great synths, that some (like Stanford) think is the dogs dangly bits. ive played one and the filter is indeed amazing. and the big knobs are really smooth and just feel like "quality" in your hand.

its just the the Sub37 has just SWAMPED them completely in their factory and they just cant keep up with it. They probably need the bench space.

the slim phatty is a great synth. But the Sub37 is, incredibly...even better. Its a great problem for any company...especially a synth company in 2014 in a new world of synth plugins to have...several world-wide certified smash hardware synth products. i guess im trying to say if the Sub37 and Sub Phatty were duffers....Slim phatty probably wouldnt be getting deleted.

i feel such an amazing connection with the company Moog these past few years...the fact that they are even around through the hard times, and how they so ON THE MONEY with their products, im cheering them on from the sidelines with such enthusiasm. I havent felt like this about a company for a long time, actually last time was Apple years ago around the time of ipod and then iphone..the later Jobs era. Where he just NAILED what everyone was wanting and thinking needed to be made. Like they were plugged into the stratosphere ether and feeding from our collective minds. its when a company goes from great to ...Brilliant.

Go Moog!

The Sub 37 is just that good. I never liked the Slim or Little Phatty, they just didn't feel right.

We need a rack version of the Sub 37 so Sub 37 owners can create polyphonic monstrosities with it. :)

I really understand the kick one can get by manually change lots and lots of parameters real time. As Amos said in his video, the Sub 37 might be a "Happy Accident Generator"! And that's fine to find your inspiration that way.
I like the way the LP / SP generator is organised. I've never tested a Sub Phatty or a Sub 37 but there are enough videos out there showing off those synths. They sound really great! But I would be completely lost with all those tiny knobs! Besides, there are lots of function I won't be using such as the sequencer.
Anyway, I hope I'll be able to find one of the last Slim Phattys before it's over. I might have to search on the second hand market...

3 Month later: found one!
Here is my Slim Phatty! Really happy to own one.
I decided I won't use it with the poly chain function. I'm having more fun using it as an extra sound generator.

Got mine about two weeks ago, apparently fresh production but who knows how long that production line will continue to exist.

I think it's funny how my Slim Phatty was built here in WNC, then traveled hundreds of miles to the retailer, only to get a new outer box (maybe some hard candy), and a return ticket to WNC. :D

Really enjoying the SP as a new sound source. I think it leans toward different sounds than the Sub37. I find my self sending it step-sequences, and working the knobs a lot more than I do on the Sub37 (where I tend to save sounds that get played live). All good.

Coincidentally, I'm using my Slim again and loving it, too ~ I'm glad its factory production is discontinued, kind of gives it a sudden "exotic" quality and we can still feel secure Moog is still supporting it at the same time lol
and +1 on the second part of Tooms comment ~ a RackMount SUB 37 8)

Sub XL, 3 VCO, ladder filter + Hpf/Notch etc, 3 LFO's, 3 AHDSR's (that can be sent to LFO's), FM, bigger and better arpeggiator and sequencer, better source to destination capabilities (รก la DSI Pro 2 & 12), big touchscreen (naming, routing etc)/ XY, programmable CV ins & outs, one extra octave!

Same style and components as the Sub Phatty / Sub 37
