in perfect saw tooth wave? oscilloscope

i just used the exoscope plugin and when i viewed the saw wave on my little phatty it wasn't as steep and had a square coming from the peak of the saw?!

The names of waveforms have always been descriptors and not meant to imply an exact geometric description. Though the opposite is true. A perfect digital 50/50 cycle is called a square wave.

One exception is the sine wave.

The correct "perfect" saw waveform isn't exactly in the saw panel position. You'll have to tweak it very gently to find it. You can also try identifying it by ear, wich after sometime becomes easier. You're getting a waveform that is something between the saw and the square wave. This is one of the aspects/features I like most on my Moog synthesizers...

Somehow, the OSCs that I've scoped (Phatty, VOS, MOS-LAB Kobol) which support variable and in some cases, CV controlled morphing wave, are not very precise from a geometric purity perspective.

Meanwhile, the SSL 1200 oscillator which has fixed outputs per waveform, is sharp as a knife.

I'm due to receive a few 921 clones from MOS-LAB within the next two weeks and will have a look. Eager to see what the real old school looks like. Well... New Old School, that is.

With regard to letting your ear decide, you should have a listen to Wendy Carlos's "Secret of Synthesis" disc for a walk through of various waveforms, you won't believe your ears!
