Whats wrong with Slim and midi ?

Post by absentmusic1 » Sat Aug 03, 2013 11:30 pm

Played my SP for half a year without any problems.
Minitaur was the problem kind.
Logic 9 Apple Mac Pro
But today i opened the Song im working in, the last weeks, also with the SP. Iinvested 6 hours to get the sp to work.
Nothing.
Midi in shows up but no audio.
Wired letters on the Screen,
Wired incoming notes to logic.
Sometimes cant move the lights on the knobs.
Programm names wont change, only the numbers in front.
Midi In/ Out and every parameter im able to read is changed.
Midi is changed to Omni.
Local controll is of.
But also without Logic and USB.
Only Keyboard and Slim.
A day is gone. And the unit also ?
No MTC.
Did factory resets, installed firmwire, unplugged everything.
Cant get the slim back to work.
If i do calibration mode, there is sound.
And if i press a key 20 times there is sometimes a ton for a second.
But there are a lot of post with the same problem in the last time.
Whats wrong ?
Should i try to upgrade the USB thing on a PC ?
Or send it back to the store ?
Since i try to make music with the moogs i spend more time reading in forums and trying stupid work arounds.

I have an LP and haven't read the SP manual, so I'm just guessing. Shouldn't local control be turned "on?"

Regarding the strange characters displayed on the Slim Phatty's screen & preset numbers only changing - I have had this problem a few times (and perhaps your whole ordeal), and I believe I was able to fix it by re-sending the saved patches to the unit (easy for me as I have two other phattys chained and I can send patches from one to the other). If you have the patch librarian computer software or another type of SYSEX software for sending patches, you could try and re-send your/other patches from your computer..

What was plugged into the unit when all of this occurred? There is the possibility that other gear/computers could have created a ground or MIDI loop which has made the Slim behave crazy. I know you re-sent the firmware - was this the latest? If not, I would try sending the latest.

It seems as though all of the symptoms are probably related (as it all happened at once) and I would definitely contact Moog Support about it. Perhaps they will suggest some kind of debugging process.

Good luck, I hope it all works out for you soon! Let us know how it goes.

Regards,
David

I think in the moment it crashed, only USB was in.
Mostly played with a doepfer LMK 2+ Keyboard with USB out.
Sequenced with logic9
But since it crashed is no matter whats pluged in ore out.
tried midi only, usb only, nothing in...
Revision 3.12 680.
Phatty is only 6 months old, with warranty.
So last chance to get a tip here or i have to send it back.

Damn, that sounds frustrating :( . If I was you I'd talk to Moog Support - if that fails to help then I'd take it back.
That's just me though.

After 3 Days of searching all over the Internet and tried out everything,
i got it back to work with the 3.1 USB board update on PC.
No luck on my MAC.
No luck with revision 3.3 or 3.4 on PC 1
No success with 3.4 on PC 2
Success with rev 3.1 on PC 2
Open up the programe, i had nothing to type in these time.
SP displayed usb update. Whoa
First was not recognizing to midi.
But after a last factory reset he continued work with midi and usb in.
Hope this will be working for a time.
Its a completly no go from MOOG not to inform their customers and leave them alone with these problems.
Was no fun the last days.
Some people do not use the Instruments only for fun.
Some need them to work with.
Let me alone with a brand new Instrument, wich is not ready to perform is not professional.
No answer from Moog within 4 Days.
Then the update only on windows.
I dont know any musician with a PC sorry.
So thats an really adventure moog is sending their customers trough.
Was not funny.
PS. Never got that f... sticker for registration, after half a year.
Not for the Mini, not for the Phatty.
Thx.
