I thought some of you might be interested in this...

I've been messing around with software vocoders lately and I found the TAL Vocoder (http://kunz.corrupt.ch/products/tal-vocoder) which allows the use of an external carrier signal.

I used the Slim Phatty as a carrier signal, and it sounds awesome. I will post the track here shortly so you can all see how well the Slim Phatty works as a vocoder!

Here you go. The Slim Phatty/TAL vocoder is the first one that comes in around 2:10. It continues throughout the part.

Cool. What kind of sound did you dial up out of the Slim to use for the carrier signal?

Glad you enjoyed it!

I programmed and saved a preset for it, but I will have to check the Logic project, where I note which preset I used for each track. I'll get back to you about specifics.

I can tell you, however, that I used both oscillators plus the SP's noise source, and I moved the mod wheel towards the end of each phrase ("good eye"). It ended up working great, and I recommend it for anyone who wants a modern Moog vocoder!

NB - the later, hard-panned vocoders towards the very end are Logic's EVOC20. I discovered TAL after I had recorded them, and didnt want to redo them.
