Controlling Little Phatty Stage II with TB 303

Hello all,
I own some vintage and more recent analog gear and have so far succeeded in syncing them successfully.
I have a TR606 drum machine that drives a TB 303 via Din Sync, and a trigger out from the TR 606 driving a Monotribe via the sync in. This setup works fine and I can get very creative with all the possibilities on hand. I've had a lot of problems syncing devices across MIDI in the past, and going all analog] s far more rewarding!

I noticed CV and Gate outputs on the TB 303's back panel, and was wondering how to drive my Little Phatty Stage 2 from the TB's sequencer. The idea would be to have the LP's sound sequenced by the TB 303.

I'm fairly new to CV and Gate and would like to know if this is possible before attempting this.

Also, to which inputs on the LP's panel should the TB's CV and Gate be connected (if this is possible?)

Thanks for your help!

Aspi.

connect Gate from TB303 to "KB Gate" input on LP
connect pitch CV from TB303 to "Pitch CV" input on LP
try it, it won't hurt anything. :) Worst that will happen would be that they don't track pitch together perfectly
but for acid techno that's not usually a problem :)

Thanks Amos!
It works great, except that some patterns on the tb don't translate very well on the LP if they are made of low pitched notes. Apart from that, when the notes are in the high register, the sync is perfect!
Ill try to send a sync out from the monotribe to the KB gate and see what results I will get. This opens the door to amazing possibilities with my other analog gear....
Thanks!
Aspi.

When sequencing the LP, you can :

Press any key to set the bus voltage to a higher or lower pitch, that will transpose the sequence immediately according the the key pressed.

You can also press the Octave buttons (and a key to register the change) to change octave.

This way you can cover the whole audio range and more even though the TB-303 keeps sending its normal 1-5 volts.

The sounds coming out of the LP depends on the preset you are using. Use rather sharp attack and release settings on the VCA EG if the sequence or the gate length is too fast.

Have fun.

Reading this thread had me noodling late at night with my x0xb0x and my Minitaur.
Had only one 1/4" to 1/8" adapter so I had to hold a note down to keep the gate open.
Clip to demonstrate the Minitaur tracking pitch and doing the classic 303 slides, very well.

Crappy iphone mic so no bass.

Just insert a dummy TS plug in the Gate Jack of the Minitaur, that will keep the gate open. Oldest trick in the Moog book.

It worked with my Phatty, but it does not work for my Minitaur for some reason.

Just need to get another 1/4" to 1/8" TRS adapter to control the gate for some 2 VCO, phase re-trigger, acid(bass)lines, programmed from the x0xb0x's sequencer. I'm excited :D

Hummm, you're right... I just checked, oldest trick in the book does not work on the Minitaur, it's a different breed, but it does on the Phatty and Voyager.

Yup, I use it when I pass the x0xb0x through the slim phatty for overdrive. Strange it does not work for the Minitaur. oh well..

Checking stability of CV/Gate only control for Moog Minitaur. Crappy iphone mic recording, so no bass...

Reviving this thread as I am experiencing a related issue...

I'm trying to sequence my LP Stage II from a x0xb0x (actually x0xio) but the gate does not trigger. It just remains open. Pitch is tracking just fine. Did anyone here manage to trigger the gate envelope using a x0xb0x?

Cheers,
R
