80s Bass sound

Post by Sonen3 » Wed Nov 28, 2012 1:40 pm

Hiya
I just bought a Little phatty and have been experimenting with for about a week now! My current goal is to try create something similar to "a very 80s bass sound" and i was wondering if you guys could help me out. Try and guide me if you believe you can help me, how to tweak the knobs and so on! :D

A reference track to what sound I'm looking for: Scritti Politti - Perfect Way
And for Spotify users: http://open.spotify.com/track/7bRmqYOvoMSGrEvPmh1Rlz

I think you need to buy a DX7 for those 80's bass sounds.

Well, is there anyway to get anywhere close to that bass sound with a Moog?

If you understand the basics of subtractive synthesis, using an analog synth you have alot of options. But, trying to re-create sounds that were originally made using other forms of synthesis, like FM, or by digital waveforms, will be difficult to "nail". If you are not well versed in subtractive synthesis, I'd suggest looking up a few tutorials on YouTube. There are many great instructional tutorials all over the web. Moogs are absolutely fantastic for getting those warm, fat analog basses- but cannot work outside their prescribed domain.
