Midi Chain

Post by PersonalPan » Sun Jun 10, 2012 10:35 pm

Yo!

Am I able to midi link my Little Phatty with my Roland Gaia? So I can have them on the same Midi Clock for Arp and such? No luck making it work so far, other than opening the KB Gate and running the Gaia through Audio In. I've read that the LP only works with other Moog synths. Lost my manual.

Thanks!

Tribute, stage 1, or stage 2?

Which OS?

Phatty internal clock out or pass along an incoming midi clock?

If you're trying to do a polychain, that will not work. You can only polychain Moog synths, and even then it works best to chain Voyager to Voyager, Phatty to Phatty, Taurus to Taurus, etc,

Stage 1. Current OS. Trying to pass along an incoming midi clock from a sampler.

Can't be done. Tribute and stage 1 can not echo an incoming clock, stage 2 and slims can.

Stage 2 added a second processor for handling usb, that also handles DIN midi as well. On the stage 1 the midi is handled by the main processor. It was not possible to add the load of echoing an incoming midi clock on the stage 1. Us stage 1 users, didn't have the hanging note issues stage 2 and slim users had with the new OS and we do not have a 2nd firmware that needs to be upgraded for the usb processor. Pretty fair trade off to me.

I'd use a midi thru box/midi splitter if all you need is clock or other info from the sampler sent to more than one piece of gear. If you want to use the phatty's keyboard in addition to sending clock to another piece of gear, you are screwed (not totally but it would take a midi thru box for before the phatty and a midi merger for after the phatty).

Try plugging the sampler into the gaia, then midi thru to the phatty and then make sure the arp is set to midi clock. If the phatty is the last device on the midi chain it doesn't matter if it wont pass the midi clock.
