anyone else using a doepfer R2M with their SP/LP?

Post by namahshaman » Sun Nov 20, 2011 5:47 pm

Does anyone else on here use a Doepfer R2M ribbon controller with their SP/LP? If so, do you know any tricks to keeping the Moog tuned while going back and forth between the keys and the ribbon (using it to control pitch CV)? For example, when I use the ribbon controller to do pitch slides then go back to the keyboard, the notes are not on the right keys. Usually I get it as close as I can with the ribbon while I hold down a certain note, then have to use the fine tune to get it just right. I feel like there may be some simple solution to this problem that I'm not seeing since I'm a bit new to the CV world. Any feedback is appreciated.

Turn off Auto tuning. I had exactly the same thing happening when driving the LP with pitch CV.
For some reason, the auto-tuner gets crazy in the head when you have pitch CV In and you hit keys on the keyboard.
Set tuning to Off or On, anything but auto should be good.

hope this helps

thanks, cliffman . . . I had already turned auto-tune off though, which definitely improved the problem, but I'm still finding that if I use the R2M for a pitch slide and then bring it back, to what should be the same note, it gets off by half a step or so. It may actually be a problem with the R2M, I'm not sure, but its options are so minimal, I can't seem to find anything in the manual.

yeah, I've almost gotten used to tuning it between songs (I have the headphone out running to a tuner). Luckily my band does extended ambient soundscapes between songs, so I have time to tune it then . . . the only down side is that I usually can't use the Phatty for the trippy transitions and have to rely on my nord and fx pedals because I'm busy tweaking the moog, getting it ready for the next song . . . a tad annoying. I really hope someone smarter than me figures this out and fills us in on a solution, Sean. Did you just give up on the pitch CV or what? Anyway, thanks for letting me know I'm not alone on this one.
