This may not solve your problem the way you'd like, and hopefully someone with more knowledge will be able to help you fix it permanently. BUT, when I use my Phatty in Live on a Mac, I don't use the VST editor as a plug-in (I only use that to edit sounds prior), when I'm in Live, I just open a MIDI channel and an audio channel for the Phatty, so that Live is still the main clock and sequencer, but you can do all the tweaking you want on the Phatty in real time. So in a live situation, you just have your midi information programmed in and tweak your parameters on the fly, OR if recording, you can still program the midi info in and then record it as you tweak until you get it just right.
