Theremin and harmful radiation?

Post by Robotube » Sun Aug 07, 2005 3:19 pm

I know this may seem like something a hypochondriac or health-paranoid person would ask, but I was thinking today about the possibility of Theremin use and carcinogenic radiation.

Does anyone have knowledge on this subject and if there is any sort of real research done on this topic that could lead to an answer? I mean, you're essentially sticking yourself right in the middle of these radio waves being emitted directly in front of you. I certainly hope I'm being foolish in worrying about this.

I must admit, I've been rather depressed about Bob Moog having been diagnosed with cancer, and it got me wondering if his work had any relation to it. Of course, I also send my most enthusiastic wishes for a speedy recovery to Bob and his family!

Leon Theremin, the inventor of the Theremin lived to be 97 and on top of that he surely got dosed with plenty more radio waves than Thereminists do while developing the "bug" for the KGB. Radiation and radio waves are not the same thing... just as something modular doesn't necessarily modulate anything (try that with your sofa)

Excellent point. Thanks. I'm also reminded that Clara Rockmore was no Spring chicken when she passed away as well.

Er.... I don't think the Theremin is a major cause of sexual dysfunction either.
