THEREMIN SHOWDOWN #3
This third installment in LA's only ongoing series of live Theremin performances will continue to prove that the Theremin is a very real, expressive, and musical instrument. Invented by Russian physicist Leon Theremin in 1918, it is played by moving one's hands in the air around the instrument - there is no physical contact. Although most people think of the sound of Theremin as horror B-movie soundtrack fodder from the 1950's, performers at the showdown will play melodies, harmonies, and songs from a variety of styles - jazz, classical, pop, soul, electronica. There will be a multi-Theremin jam session and some audience members may get a chance to try their hand. The only way to really appreciate all this is to see, in person, Theremin played by musicians who respect and love this very special and unique electronic instrument.

ED SUSSMAN
Ed has been performing and recording for 9 years with his own custom designed Theremin that looks as alien as it sounds. Past credits include feature films, commercials, cartoons, trade shows, expos, and schools. His repertoire is broad: classical, jazz, standards, pop, movie soundtracks. Ed has the experience and ability to demonstrate the versatility of the Theremin.

SEKSU ROBA
LA's own experimental pop duo continues to bewilder audiences with their unique stage show which includes nunchucks, space porn, a 7 foot tall robot, and Theremin. Seksu Roba's eclectic range of influences lets Sukho use the instrument in such divergent styles as disco, classical, electronica, exotica, and pop. His mission: to push the Theremin further forward into uncharted territory. Expect the unexpected. www.seksuroba.com

IQU
(pronounced ee-koo) This Japanese-American electronic pop group from Seattle has been around for over 7 years, touring and playing with acts like Looper, Hovercraft, Mouse on Mars, Add N to X, Dub Narcotic Sound System, Cornelius, Built to Spill, Fugazi, Modest Mouse, Sleater-Kinney. From their 4 releases on K Records, to their brand new "Sun Q" album on Sonic Boom, they continue to challenge the status quo of indie rock by injecting funk, breakbeats, electronics, and solid pop sensibility. K.O.'s virtuoso Theremin skills are to be reckoned with - just check out his rendition of "Loving You". www.iquiqu.com
