I use the Radial Big Shot EFX true bypass fx loop switch to bypass my MF-101.
This way the pedal has 3 modes - bypass; tone / volume boost; filter. When I play heavy thick distortion, the pedal kinda over does things when the red light is on, but I can bypass it to keep the sound going into the distortion less "powerful" which prevents muddiness, and keeps the distortion clean and direct (if you know what I mean).
It's absolutely awesome for warming up the clean tones, and mildly driven sound. Even after a chain of tone robbing pedals, it really can make up for them, but in more of a cover-up way than replacing the sound that is subtracted.
I've noticed it had good and bad days too!!
