moogerfooger name origins

Post by SouthPark » Sun Jan 01, 2017 7:34 am

Anyone know the true origins of this name? Moogerfooger. Sure, it rhymes. But should be interesting to know this model name came about. I'm guessing it wasn't the product of a joke..... like mother f*****r etc. Anyway, since Moog is such a huge name in synthesiser history..... had to finally get a Moog product, and ended up with a MF-102. Truly fantastic device.

IIRC, the name 'moogerfooger' is a corruption of the (ahem) colorful language that Bob was said to use on occasion.

RE: the MF-102 is a great way to start your MF collection (yes, you will be buying more). There's a lot it can do. Check out the 'Lord of the Ring (Mod)' article for all the hints & tips. The article is a PDF available on KnobTweak:

An explanation from the web on the history of the MFs
http://www.retrosynth.com/~analoguedieh ... erfoogers/:
For those curious about the origin of the name, Bob had visited a studio and noticed one of the mixer channels was labeled "moogerfooger". He learned that the owner had a heavy Brooklyn accent and this label was the translated from his pronunciation of a very unflattering metaphor.
Guitars. Moog Grandmother, DFAM, Subharmonicon, Minitaur, Slim Phatty, Moogerfoogers 101, 102, 103, 104M, 107, 108M and CP-251. Yamaha CS-15. Roland JUNO 106. DSI Tetr4. Arturia Beatstep Pro. Korg ARP Odyssey Module Rev1. Dreadbox NYX 2.
