Freqbox envelope out

I managed to get an MF drive pedal for Christmas from my girlfriend (good job on her part). I tried running the env out from my freqbox to the expression pedal in on the Mf Drive to get some goopy/funky bass sound, but the envelope from the freqbox doesn't seem to do much in this application. Has anyone else tried using the env out of their freqbox and gotten a useful envelope CV? I can run other CVs into the MF Drive and modulate the filter cutoff, so I know that's working fine.

Try using the env CV from the Freq to modulate the TIME CV on the 104M.

I don't know for sure but I think the env CV on the Freq behaves a bit differently than the env CV on the 101. It seems like it decays a bit faster to me.

I've tried using the Freq env CV on other Foogers and for a while thought it wasn't outputting any signal. Maybe running it through the lag on a CP-251 would slow the decay time a bit.

Pardon me for pointing this out if you are hip to it already, but the Freq has to be engaged to output the env CV. You may have to fiddle with the Frequency setting to get the 107 to respond to the input too.

Good idea. I didn't really try to control anything else with it as a test.

The envelope on the FreqBox definitely seems fast - I should've thought of the lag processor. I'll definitely try that. And I don't have an MF-101 to compare the envelope to, otherwise I would've tried that.

I did figure out in my tweaking that what little envelope CV I was getting went away if the pedal was disengaged. That totally makes sense, but it's always hard to tell just how "true bypass" moogerfoogers are. I didn't try adjusting the freq control. That might make a difference.

Thanks for the reply. That's all some good food for thought. I'll see what I can get and report back.

I've had the 107 for some time and really haven't figured out anything more than using it as an extra oscillator. Running audio through it seems to be pretty painstaking in order to get musical results, at least to my ears.

When using the 107 to access the envelope CV I usually find myself turning the Mix to zero and running that output down the rest of the signal chain.

As always, the Moog manuals are your friend. I printed them all out and have them in a couple binders and refer to them often and always seem to find something new when I do.

Also, when I see something interesting on the forums I will copy it to Notepad and print them too for later reference. The depth of these "boxes with knobs" as my wife calls them is staggering.

I don't know if this will help, have you tried inverting the CV signal?

Manual diving reveals that it should work, so I don't know why it wouldn't... Like Csus7 said, it could just be acting full range so quickly that you don't hear it.

I'll try that too. I did try some inversion, but I was also mixing the signal with the LFOs on the CP-251 at the time.

You might also try running the FreqBox's envelope out into the CP-251 mult in, running two of the mult outputs into the mixer, and using the mixer output. This should amplify the CV signal.

Does that work? It doesn't seem like that should work.

I did get something to work. I ran from the env out of the freqbox to ch1 of the mixer on the CP-251 and the triangle wave to channel 2. Then I set the offset control slightly negative and took the negative output from the mixer. From there, I hit the lag processor and only "lagged" the rising edge. Now I've got an envelope controlling the filter on the MF Drive and a little triangle wave modulation for good measure.

Okay, I was wrong to doubt you. This does work, and it works very well. It didn't occur to me that you could get more CV amplitude by mixing several of the same signal. Now I have this really crazy sounding ultra-doom bass sound.
