Moogerfoogrs with Buchla 200e question.

Post by BHC303 » Wed Aug 14, 2013 4:54 am

Hey all,

Just wondering how the moogerfoogers CV inputs handle the hotter voltages that the 200e can produce? safe?

I have heard people using it with Serge and Buchla with no probs, but just wanted to check as I know Moog gear usually peaks at +5v (and also does -v that the Buchla does not)

For now I don't really have any way to attenuate the signal... but was hoping to modulate my 104m with the buchla and a format jumbler :D

Thanks in advance

You can always run your CV's through a CP-251 to attenuate them.

I'm about to receive a couple Serge panels to couple with my Foogers and I'm also interested in this question.

Hey Steve,

I sold my XL voyager so I don't have attenuation currently... Guys on muff wiggler form seem to get away with it, I would have thought there would be protection built in... Not sure how it works though.

Love Serge modular... Hope to own soon ;-)

Cheers mate.

I remember a thread where one of the moog employees stated there should be no problem between +/-12V, though the official spec is still +/-5V. One CV issue with the phatty line, not sure if it applies to the voyager or foogers, is that trigger pulses that are very short are not always recognized.

Although I did so before, I wouldn't use more than +5v on any of the inputs again.

I damaged my 12-stage phaser by sending it CV from an Arp Odyssey. I think Arps CV may go as high as 10 or 15v. I was modulating the phaser frequency and something in the phaser got burned. Now there's bad audible distortion towards the top of the frequency span, and it's been this way ever since. I used to patch the phaser and ring mod with an MS20 all the time, without any problems. The MS20 CV is 0-5v and -2.5 - +2.5.

To me this means, attenuate your CV's or risk burning your gear. Most of the time it seems to be fine. Though if you don't have a way of measuring your CV's, best to play it safe and attenuate attenuate attenuate...
