I would like to ask everyone's thoughts on a Moogerfooger vocoder? I know the old Moog vocoders are big (and expensive), but MAM sells one and PAiA has a DIY vocoder that fits in a single rack space so it seems that something similar could be done with a Moogerfooger box? I have an Electrix WarpFactory, but I'd really like to see what Moog would produce.

Thats always what I've wanted to see from the Moogerfooger line. Vocoding is such a versatile effect, you can process so much more than just vocals. People hear the word "vocoder" and automatically think "overused robot voices", but vocoders are so much more. Just think of a Moog CV vocoder..... awesome.

I agree. I use the Warpfactory for more than the robot voice too. It even has a robot voice button. It's a cool vocoder, but it ain't a Moog. I saw the older Moog vocoder on Ebay about a year ago and it went for $2000. It looked like a pretty sophisticated vocoder. My hope is that Moog will build a simpler one more like the PAiA. It seems like that would fit in the Moogerfooger pedal housing no problem. Maybe you could chain them for those looking for something along the lines of the older one.

I've been meaning to buy the Warpfactory. They're so inexpensive and the samples I've heard sound pretty good. For $150, you can't go wrong!

I tried the Warpfactory as a vocoder, but honestly, it made really whiny tones, and didn't sound like Battlestar Gallactica Psylons at all. Sounded like a robot with a bad cold. You can get some interesting sounds from putting loops or drum machines in the thing, but the only reason I'd ever pick up another is if I found it for less than $50, or it was given to me by anybody who didn't want it.

I found a better vocoder with my old Boss SE70, but I lost that to the pawn shop. (Ouch!). But feed that a synth sound, and give it a bit of mic pre, and you're there.

As far as a Moog vocoder, I'm not really sure they're going to make one. Novation/Korg/DSI seems to have made a few already, and it might not be cost effective for them to make a CV controlled vocoder, and a pure analogue one at that. Oh I'm sure they could sell one, but why would the public want to buy one when there are other options out there?

It would be be a challenge to build a pure analog vocoder (with at least 10 to 12 channels) into a moogerfooger sized box. Per channel you need two-band pass filters (also two low-pass for the lowest channel, two high-pass for the highest one...) and a ton more op amps to built the vocoder circuit... (analysis, synthesis, envelope followers, voiceed/unvoiced detector, ... some MIDI and CV control).

I also think they should add a full fledged Sequencer to the Moogerfooger lineup.

and +1 for a sequencer. even if it had to be more the size of a CP251, or minitaur.
