Cluster Flux LFO Out CV MOD - who wants this?

Post by Alien8 » Wed Jun 06, 2012 12:09 pm

In response to a number of posts indicating interest in modifying the Cluster Flux to have a CV LFO Out jack added, I started this thread to tally interest in such a mod. If you would pay to have this done as a MOOG factory mod, let's show our demand here, so MOOG can decide if it is worth supporting.

Count me in as a "**** YES!"

Also, if someone from MOOG would like to burst our bubble at communicating the impossibility of such a request (due to technical limitations of the pedal, or other), this may be a good spot for that.
Vibration emanates from all things, even nothing. Using awareness to translate vibration into "music" is something that I am whole heartedly grateful for.

Hi Alien8,

Obviously, I'm not a MOOG employee, but I am lucky enough to get to talk
with a lot of them. When I received the MF-108M prototype it was the very
first feature request I had. I later posted the request via the forum:
http://forum.moogmusic.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=11976

It got far enough along that they were going to see if they could make a
one-off version with LFO Out for me but, after several months of trying,
it just never became realistically feasible, even as an after-purchase mod.

I mention this only to save you from putting a lot of effort into an
honorable but, ultimately unachievable campaign.

Dan,
Can you share exactly why it wasn't feasible? Was there simply no room for it?

Shoot, Id be willing to sacrifice one of the audio outputs for the LFO out. You can always do extra tricks to simulate stereo anyway.

I'm going to err on the side of assuming it's not my place to discuss
specifics, but as you can see by last year's post, I, like you, was perfectly
willing to give up an existing jack. It was far more problematic than that.

They would have gladly given it to us if it wasn't such a bitch to do. The
awesome number of features and tricks found on the 105M and 108M
shows how much they value flexibility.

If there was a public campaign, I think stressing our desire for the 7-wave
LFO Out on some future product stands a much better chance of happening
than a retrofit on existing products.

Thanks _DemonDan_, this is great input.

I will second the notion of a new product with 7 (or more) wave shapes.

Add this to the list for the cp252, along with an ADSR with a delayed trigger mechanism....

I drew this up a few years ago and mailed it to Moog.
Image

1. Four channel audio mixer/vca. Four adjustable input levels, a CV input for something like an LFO for tremelo perhaps.
The envelope disconnect switch would disconnect it from the first envelope generator like the Voyager's external switch, opening it up.
Two outputs.

2. Two independent envelope generators, one being internally wired to the Mixer/VCA.

3. Dual trigger delay.

4. Envelope follower I stiuck this one on here because they already have the circuit designed, this just puts a face to it and it falls in the original Moog model number sequence (911, 911a, 912. The third knob on the envelope follower that is unlabeled was based on the one in the Moog Archives photo which Kevin said was not a stock module, and that extra knob wasn't on many (if any) that he had seen. That would be the perfect place for their logo.

I called this the CP255 because it is based off of the extra modules you get on a System 55.

I even came up with a marketing slogan for it, as well as a logical reason why it should be built.

Agreed Moog now knows there is a demand for it. I am sure they are or already have considered it for upcoming products.

Wow well done eric! I like the cut of our jib, and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

No but i too would love to have an lfo out on my 108m. Its definitely possible to include if it were part of the original design so I wonder if its really a physical limitation due to internal space, tight smt on the pcbs or something like that.

Either way the 108m sounds fantastic!

I haven't touched my CP-251 since I bought Expert Sleepers Silent Way. It works with my MOTU ultralite. It's a Very easy way to keep all of my foogers in sync.
Lfo Cv out is not needed on the the Clusterflux as long as you have a computer.

I know by looking at the above discussion that this mod is unlikely, but if it somehow was implemented, I think it should be available for both the MF-108M Cluster Flux & MF-104M Analog Delay, as they both have a very similar design and desired 7-wave-shape LFO (EDIT: 7 shapes, not 6 as I originally incorrectly stated).

If this mod was offered, I'd definitely be keen for it on my MF-104M, but I think if we're more likely to get a 7(or more)-wave-shape LFO Out on a future device, the Midi Sync feature should be carried over too..

David.

I really wish my OS had a 6 wave shape LFO! Or two would be even better to make vintage drum beats. Is there a Moog product that allows using a 6 wave shape LFO as an addition to a Voyager?

I'm doing my best to prevent myself from looking at the XL - lol. Its huge and too expensive. Must... find... other... option.
