Hi,
I was wondering – is there a way to quantize, or semi-quantize (if you know what I mean) CP-251's S&H CV without actually using a quantizer (I'm saving for one - namely Doepfer's A-156 in a mini case)? I've got a CP-251, and a Freqbox, and I'm using the S&H to control Freqbox's frequency (via attenuator). Any ideas?
Cheers,
Lukasz

Re: Quantize CP-251's S&H without a quantizer?
Brian Kehew on the Moogerfooger DVD took a triangle wave from a Ring Mod and combined that with the S&H, and the S&H were locked into the sine wave and it sounded very nice. I guess that is somewhat of a quantization.
You might can run the lfo output to the S&H input, or try to combine them with the cv mixer and then output the S&H to a pitch to see if that works.

Eric,
Thanks for your ideas – will try them out for sure!
Right now, I'm running Freqbox's OSC OUT into the multiple, and then 1) back to Freqbox AUDIO IN 2) into S&H IN. S&H1 is sent to the ATT 1, and then to Freqbox's FREQ IN. That way I get a few phrases repeated by the S&H1, with the scope of the notes (frequencies), and the note order via the ATT1. Still looking for something with more control, but will probably end up with a quantizer anyway
Once again, thanks for your input.
Cheers,
Lukasz

Eric, did you mean staircase modulation?
You need a CP-251 and another LFO or even a gate signal.
Triangle LFO to S&H input, square LFO (/gate) to S&H trigger. This will un-normal the sample and hold clock shared with the LFO on the 251.
Attenuate as you wish, S/H Out 2 is a smoothed step proportional to the LFO/S.H. rate.
The "stair steps" will be shorter the faster the S&H is being clocked.
Patch to Freq of the Freqbox(?)

Yeah I gues that would be stairstepping. It has been awhile since I heard that sample, and from what I remember it sounded "minorish".
