MF 108M? flux
Re: MF 108M? flux
I'm gonna say there is something wrong with the teaser pic. The position of the supposed labels "LFO", "rate" and "amount" are all too much to the left of the knobs. LFO is centered on O, rate is centered on T and amount is centered on U. And yes, the BYPASS is coincidentally just visible too. Either the units are badly labelled (fakes from China) or its a bit doctored, possibly a mock up for the purposes of teasing.
I'm ordering one, I just don't know what it is yet,

My guess would be tap tempo is on the other sidefilosofem wrote:Why is the Bypass on the far right hand side?

Re: MF 108M? flux
Very exciting. If colorform is correct I am glad I didn't drop $$$ on an mp-201 yet. That would be much more up my alley.

Sounds quite logical with the "cluster" theme!ColorForm2113 wrote:I'm thinking its a multi lfo fooger with midi and tap tempo. Probably with the ability to combine the different lfos almost like a ring modulator (ie; lfo 1 output, lfo 2 output, sum output, difference output, etc.)
Our friends Moog have a good tradition of making multi-use stuff, i.e. an LFO or two to use with external gear and something else.
Could this be a tremolo? And therefore the long-awaited VCA 'fooger?

Re: MF 108M? flux
I assume it has 2 footswitches. Maybe a bypass and a tap tempo?

Re: MF 108M? flux
If it is two lfos, I wonder if they would be able to function as two audio oscillators (five oscillator voyager!) Tremolo/vca is another very good possibility

Re: MF 108M? flux
My point of view is:
-it's not a control only processor (multiple lfo module), because a huge market for MFs is the guitar market, so the thing has to process audio, besides MP-201 is an LFO/Envelope generator, so they wouldn't double a product they already have. Moreover, a control processor would be in CP-251 format.
-I was thinking maybe a VCA with envelope and LFO, and the second tap switch would be envelope trigger (but that is limited in use with audio processing, tremolo sure, but You have the ring mod which is great for tremolo). I'd personally would like a VCA, but i think that'll happen as a CP-251 control box with envelopes and stuff and more CV then audio oriented, maybe Moog will come up with a sequencer some day, something like Doepfer Dark Time. But I believe that's a thing of the future.
-Flanger/chorus with tap tempo is a good guess for me, but I wouldn't really care, unless it's something more then a classic flanger/chorus sound (more modulation posibilities, I don't know, i'm not a chorus/flanger fan).
-A stereo delay is likely since the MF-104 is discontinued and not having a delay pedal as a product would be strange for Moog (but then, why put a LFO there, so I think it's not a delay this time, maybe later).
-The final guess (regarding two footswithes) is that it's a double effect. Maybe a double multimode filter (something like the Voyager has, but more complex), I'd like a high and bandpass very much.
SUMMARY
I hope they'll suprise us with some kind of exotic thing like the MURF, a new concept in effects. A VCA/envelope generator/sequencer might happen at some point, but not yet. Delay/Flanger/Chorus combo might be likely, since they are all delay related effects. But my best guess is a double multimode filter. Let's start a pool in this thread
What do You guys think?

Re: MF 108M? flux
All logically thought out PHC. The phrase 'Cluster Flux' doesn't make any sense, OK MuRF doesn't make any sense so apparently all new foogers from now on will be unexpected new effects and have incomprehensible names. This new fooger had better be good enough to require a t-shirt trademark!
Googling shows Cluster Flux is a weight training technique, a record label and quite unexplained usage. For foreigners (non-US people like me), what meanings does Cluster Flux have?

It's wordplay on the term "cluster f@ck", which is American slang for something going not right.

Re: MF 108M? flux
I talked to Rosser today.
He said he wasn't sure what the engineers were up to, and that it's common for them to apply for patents whether or not they intend to actually bring the product to the market.
Maybe he was being coy, I don't know.
Post this on gearslutz and see if amos responds.

the patent was taken out March 23 2011 - 1 week before april 1.

Vibration emanates from all things, even nothing. Using awareness to translate vibration into "music" is something that I am whole heartedly grateful for.
Re: MF 108M? flux
Moog isn’t going to answer to anyone about an unreleased product.
This was in the harmony central forum…supposedly an ad from the back of an “Ultimate guide to guitar and bass gear”.
Im sure the picture of the unit is real.

Re: MF 108M? flux
Makes perfect sense to modular users who have English as a primary language. It is a contraction of Mu ltiple R esonant F ilter.LivePsy wrote: OK MuRF doesn't make any sense
A CF is of course, American slang for TARFU. (Between SNAFU AND FUBAR) It has multiple waveforms and they include a S/H form, so I'm not thinking VCA in this as a primary section. It would really be cool if it turned out to be a pitch tracking unit with octave divider/multiplier and some CV over the interval.

Re: MF 108M? flux
Yeah a full blown oscillator would be a great thing, especially if it is a dual tracking osc but thats probably not what that Fooger is. The 107 is nice but it wasn't intended as a full range osc.

I like multimode filter with midi sync lfo or midi sync delay.
