Proud new father...

Post by ColorForm2113 » Tue May 10, 2011 10:37 pm

That's right in an effort to become the angelina jolie of moogerfooger owners, I have adopted murf from a local music store today. I must say I knew it would be amazing but wow! I haven't even messed with cv yet. Speaking of which, does any one know if the midi murf manual is the same as the regular murf manual just with the obvious midi addition? I would like a break down of all the patterns.
My modular so far: Q104, Q106 x2, Q107, Q108, Q109 x2 , Q116, Q118, Q127 w/Q140, Q130, STG Wave Folder, Mixer and Mankato playing with Moog Voyager, VX-351, CP-251, MF-104M x2 ( STEREO!) Volca Beats and Bass, Arturia Beat step

Your good deed does not go unnoticed :) I dunno if the patterns are the same, but I can say that even without pattern motion, the murf can but an amazing vintage sound on anything.
I've stopped talking now.

Yeah I can't wait to run my cz 5000 through it. I remember something about new patterns for the midi murf when it first came out, or maybe I'm thinking of the bass murf

Thanks, I've seen the midi murf manual. I just wanted to see the original one to see what's going on in each pattern easier

There are differences, the MIDI murf has the murf patterns in the A bank, and the Bass Murf patterns in the B bank, i think.
If you can't find the murf manual online, i can scan the patterns page, if I can find it.

So I've been messing around with some of the cv jacks and I don't know if I just don't have the right settings or what but I don't really notice much of a change when using the lfo/sweep in not like with the other jacks anyway. I've tried with the lfo out from other pedals and the ep2. Any advice?

Did you set the control knobs to centre?

LFO/Sweep is a tricky one. a) it's subtle because there is so much going on in the Murf you sometimes can't hear it. b) Stereo out is required. Best to experiment with program 1 (no pattern) and the EP-2 for starters. I don't have the manual fresh in my mind and kids are clambering for my attention (a bit different than your kids : )

I'll a look later and see about giving you a better reply, my wife is out of town for the next two days so I'll actually have some time and not feel like a bad husband.

Yeah so just got to it.

With LFO off (shift frequency) it's barely noticeable depending on what type of sound you are playing and the slider settings but you can sense the stereo field change. If you've read into the manual, running it in Stereo has every other slider/band on left vs right output; as mentioned above, this is essential in order to get the most out of the MuRF. If you have a Voyager with VX-351, a MultiPedal or a CP-251, you can push a nice [midi clocked if the Voyager or MP] LFO into this jack with Sweep [lfo off] selected and get some really cool effects [different waves, S+H, etc.].

With LFO on, you get a nice whirly/leslie type of sound and it's quite convincing. Get the pattern going again with LFO on and you'll get some wild/complex patterns going.

The MidiMurf was my first and while I only have 3 (101, and 107), it's my favorite because of the way that it integrates into my Midi Studio. If you ever get the chance/urge to take the end caps and back plate off (mine is mounted between the two other foggers in the rack) have a good look at how densely populated the boards are; the thing is a marvel.

Enjoy...
