Freqbox 'whistles'... Any ideas why!?

Post by Pantherairsoft » Tue Mar 29, 2011 4:48 pm

Hey folks,

I'm experiencing a problem with my Freqbox. When engaged it emits a high pitch whistle on top of the sound. The pedal functions and sounds as it should, but the whistle is emitted on top of the sound. It's not as loud as the main effect but still audible. When the pedal is bypassed the spun vanishes, and also the pitch remains constant regardless of what's changed on the pedals knobs etc.

It's been a while since I used the pedal but don't recall it ever being there before. I changed power supply and connecting cables to ensure they were not the problem and the noise is still present. I'm not sure why it present at all but it's very annoying and is currently rendering the pedal unusable for recording purpose.

Anyone experienced a similar problem in the past? I can't get my head around it at all...

I have not had such an experience - does the whistle happen on the OSC out also?

I'm not sure. I don't use the OSC out for any part of my set up so have had no reason to try it. I'll be at the studio on Saturday and will try it out!

Hey Shep

I just bought a freq box and I've encountered the same problem. I don't really hear it while the mix is set to under 4, but above that it's definitely there. Different cables and power supplies didn't help either. In response to cliffman, I've tried it as a fourth oscillator on my voyager and I don't hear the whistling through OSC out.

It seems to be due to signal chain...

If the pedals in the chain after it have a low noise floor then it becomes audible. If it is, cranking the drive and lowering the output seems to do the job.

Cheers to Stevie D for the guidance with this issue

I thought I'd solved this but at gig volumes it's still bad... Any more suggestions....?
