Does anyone know if the last units will carry a special edition feature(like a plaque or similar)?

Doubtful since most of em are already packed and distributed to retailers. If any would be, it'd need to be ones that Moog have in house still, not sure if they do, doesn't sound like it.

To me it sounded like they had the ability to make a small number at the factory when they mentioned their remaining stock in their facebook page.

NEWS: As we announced when it was introduced 5 years ago, the MF 104Z Analog Delay would be a product with a limited lifecycle. Its time has now come. Counting what we will make this month, plus existing stock we estimate that there are only 200 units left for purchase worldwide. no digital delay from Moog please....I don't want any digital conversion going on with my signal at all, no midi crap, nothing. Once your signal hits a DAC (which I don't trust to be bypassed when some say it bypasses the DAC when off), you're working with bits and latency, messing up your playing. I have a digital delay I like, but unfortunately, I just can't deal with the DAC. Tape is really where its at, awesome freq. response, great sound, etc. Hmm Moog, CV controlled tape delay????...

EH Deluxe Memory Boy -- good way to go if you can't get the MF-104Z. You can control it with CV - although you can only patch in one spot.... but it's still a great delay.

The news item that says the MF-104z will be discontinued is no longer to be found on the front page. Furthermore there is no mention of the production being ended on the product page of the MF-104z (anymore) either... Mistake or not?

Well, I bought the Moog 104Z because of this sound. Its very much sounding like the tape echos I used 30 years ago. I got a crystal clear 44.1 16 bit digital delay here. No character until you mangle the input and the feedback loop.
I also like the old Ibanez 2000 for its digital read out of the up to 1024 msec delay. Its digital, but its that old, that I think its way below the 44.1 kHz. And most likely 12 bit or less. It got a cleaner sound then the Moog, but still with the coloured sound of a vintage delay. Well, it is vintage by now.

Not putting up an argument, but some people like mud. Check out Foo Fighters newest "Rope" and the opening riff which begins with a very Analog sounding delay.

Sure you can get this through the right algorithm and DSP, but some people just prefer the old Analog chips. The El Capistan (if I spelled that right) is a really powerful Tape Echo simulator but for me, the Memory Lane II does just fine. But like the MF, it's not cheap and likely will vanish soon.

I don't think that ANY simulator will come anywhere near a tape echo.

The Boss RE20 Space Echo is a emulation of the Roland Re201 and does a pretty nice job. While I don't have a vintage tape delay laying around I've been very happy with it.

In addition to the RE20 I have a selection of other delays including the MF104SD, as everyone knows each has it's own character to fit in on a track.

Oddly enough, years later after I posted this, I purchased a MF104M, but low and behold, people on eBay are selling MF104Z's for $480-500. But now the MF104M's have now doubled in value! (Just about anyway. I've seen them hit $1k-1200).

I think for now, I'm satisfied with my MF104M, and fairly soon I'll probably have it set up after a MF107(That I now have on layaway at my local shop). I am curious why the MF104z didn't really retain its value, but when you're pinching your pennies as it is, you can't worry about it.
