Broken Factory Patch?

Post by dingebre » Sun Apr 18, 2021 11:39 pm

I am not new to synthesizers, but I am new to the Moog One. I've had it about two weeks now and have been climbing that learning curve. I'm about half way through the manual and have watched a couple of "deep dive" videos and a few introductory videos. I have not been able to make nearly as much time as I would like to experiment which may be part of my problem.

That said, I was randomly going through the different factory supplied patches this evening to explore and learn from their parameters and routings. I found a multi-synthesizer patch called "Sergio". It has three synthesizers, two assigned to the lower keys, up to E5 (#2 and #3) and one synthesizer (#1) assigned to F5 and up. This top synthesizer plays just fine. The lower two make no sound.

1. I can see they have keyboard control enabled. The keyboard control button is lit when I set the center console panel focus to each synthesizer in turn and their keyboard note assignment bars are red. When I press low notes, I see the voice LEDs along the bottom of the center console display illuminate in turn and the red note assignment bars get a little brighter when I play in #2's and/or #3's assigned note range.

2. I tried changing the split assignments, and other simple tweaks with no luck.

3. I loaded several other multi-synthesizer patches with split keyboards and so far, they all work.

I strongly suspect it is simple ignorance on my part but I'd love to hear any ideas. I was not able to find any other specific posts addressing this kind of issue, just some discussion about how the newest OS has broken some patches. Maybe this is one of those patches?

Thanks

David

That´s in my opinion the most important fact:

Thank you! I heard from Moog (via Source distribution) and they confirmed the problem is due to some patches being effected by the firmware update.

“After some further digging, in those presets, it turns out that the Synth Effects parameter "GAIN" is set to zero.

You can turn off the synth effect to instantly hear sound, or you can go into the synth effects settings and turn up the GAIN parameter (to taste) to hear the sound as originally intended.”

Thanks so much for the help. Those threads were exactly what I needed to see. I'll give it a test tonight after work. (I didn't try a search on "Sergio")

I was able to goof around with my Moog One for just a few minutes this afternoon, and with the information you pointed me to, Tom, and some help from SweetWater, I was able to get more of the patch working. Mostly I'm relieved it isn't a defect requiring repair.

Thank you again Tom.
