Mac USB: MIDI Studio or Cubase don't see the One USB - malformed?

Post by jdmoog » Tue Dec 31, 2019 6:13 pm

My Mac (Mojave 10.14.6) sees the One in the System Report, but it does not appear in the Audio MIDI Setup utility as all my other USB-equipped synths do, nor is it seen by Cubase 10.5 in Studio Setup. By using the Apple Developer utility "USB Prober" it looks to me like the One is not reporting the Interface properly - see below, "Interface #0 - Unknown"

Full Speed device @ 6 (0x14770000): ............................................. Composite device: "Moog One"
Port Information: 0x0018
Number Of Endpoints (includes EP0):
Device Descriptor
Configuration Descriptor (current config)
Length (and contents): 18
Number of Interfaces: 1
Configuration Value: 1
Attributes: 0xC0 (self-powered)
MaxPower: 0 ma
Interface #0 - Unknown
Alternate Setting 0
Number of Endpoints 0
Interface Class: 0 (Unknown)
Interface Subclass; 0
Interface Protocol: 0

By comparison, here's what the OB-6 shows, and it's similar with the ARP Odyssey, Prophet 6 & 12, Arturia MicroFreak, ...

Full Speed device @ 49 (0x14750000): ............................................. Composite device: "OB-6"
Port Information: 0x0018
Number Of Endpoints (includes EP0):
Device Descriptor
Configuration Descriptor (current config)
Length (and contents): 101
Number of Interfaces: 2
Configuration Value: 1
Attributes: 0xC0 (self-powered)
MaxPower: 0 ma
Interface #0 - Audio/Control
Alternate Setting 0
Number of Endpoints 0
Interface Class: 1 (Audio)
Interface Subclass; 1 (Control)
Interface Protocol: 0
Audio Control Class Specific Header
Interface #1 - Audio/Streaming
Alternate Setting 0
Number of Endpoints 2
Interface Class: 1 (Audio)
Interface Subclass; 3 (Streaming)
Interface Protocol: 0
Uknown Interface SubClass Type
Uknown Interface SubClass Type

Endpoint 0x81 - Bulk Input

And yes, the One is configured to use the USB in Settings MIDI I/O for both input and output. The One is plugged into the same MIDI hub as the others - a Belkin USB 2.0 hub (MTT).

I had the same problem. Some USB HUbs are not compatible or too much Hubs in series ore USB cable too long .
Try different Hubs or activ USB cable. I solved my Problem by using an activ USB cable (Mine was too long)
