How to tame the S37 (or S25)

Post by Montfrooij » Fri Jun 04, 2021 3:33 am

I'm sometimes running into an 'issue' with my S37 when I use (for example) multidrive as an effect while playing.
It significantly boosts the output, making my levels clip.
I really like to be able to add the multidrive to the sound while playing, but it is quite a beast :)

I can (of course) lower the volume, but that makes the level quite low when I'm playing without the multidrive.
It is not something I can store per patch, as I use this like an effect while playing.

So I'm looking for a solution that can decrease the dynamic range of the output (without changing the sound).

My thoughts were adding a compressor, but when I tried that in my DAW, it really changed the sound (not just the level).

Are there other options?
(or am I not using the right compression)?

Thanks in advance.

For a self contained option you might try using the LFOs with "F.EG/PRG" setting as the source. Then set the "PRG SRC" to "CONST ON" for both LFOs. Then you can use the MW to control the filter drive and the VCA level at the same time. Filter drive positive and the VCA level negative. So the MW would be turning up the filter drive while also turning down the VCA level. Might also try modulating the amp envelope sustain instead of the VCA Level. Just a quick idea off the top of my head...

Good luck!

Good idea!

That will tame th S37 only as the S25's modulation options are more limited though.

Ahh...Thanks for clarifying. Really don't know much about the 25's abilities.

Think it as a Sub Phatty with duophony and associated mixer headroom enhancement.

There is a per-patch volume level in the edit menu, given as a percentage if I recall correctly.
