Mod wheel as expression wheel - Sub37

Hey just wondering if its possible to set up the mod wheel as an expression wheel? Would love to add noise (etc.) without LFO pumping

Yes , that's possible. To make it simple, let's start with an init patch and add mod wheel control of the noise level.

We'll use the MOD 1 section for this.

- Switch MOD SOURCE to F. EG/PGM. "PGM" meaning that we'll use a programmable source.
- Press the CONTROLLERS button to bring up the "MOD 1 CONTROL" menu.
- Set "MOD WHEEL" to +100%.
- Use the arrows and cursor buttons to select "MOD 1 EDIT" from the menu. The "MOD BUS 1" menu will be opened.
- Set "PGM SRC" to "CONST ON". This means that the MOD 1 section will use a constant level as it's source - not a varying LFO or anything else.
- Press the DEST button until NOISE LEVEL is lit (you could also hold down the DEST button while tweaking the NOISE knob in the MIXER section, this being a universal method for selecting modulation destinations).
- Turn up the MOD 1 AMT knob.
- Make sure the NOISE knob in the MIXER is at minimum if you want no noise by default.

The mod wheel will now control the noise level. You can adjust the MOD 1 AMT knob to set the maximum noise level that can be reached. This method can be applied to any patch you want to control something with the mod wheel (or aftertouch, velocity and the selectable "CTRL 4"), for any source and destination. Just beware that for any given patch the MOD 1 and/or MOD 2 sections may already be in use - if one of them is not, the use that one for your expression setup (you can use the editor software to get an overview of a patch, so that you can see how the MOD sections are used).
