Subsequent 37 odd Mod Wheel behaviour

Just received my Subsequent 37 CV today and doodling about through the presets I noticed an odd effect with the Mod Wheel.

Not sure it matters which patch but I observed the problem with Bank 4 - Preset 8

The Mod Wheel needs to be moved off the 'rest' position once, with no effect, before moving it again has any effect - in this case a vibrato effect.

It doesn't seem to matter how many keys I play or how long I wait after selecting the preset I need to move the Mod Wheel once to then get the effect on subsequent moves

Anyone else experienced this?

Assuming the Subsequent37 firmware is similar to that in the Sub37, I'd recommend checking the PRESET MWHL setting (item 5 on page 2 of the GLOBAL menu.) From page 47 of the Sub37 manual:
PRESET MWHL (GLOBAL MENU 2.5)
Determines whether a preset’s initial modulation depth is controlled by the mod wheel’s current position or the position that was current when the patch was saved. The choices are ON (default) which loads the MOD WHEEL position when the preset was last saved, and OFF which globally follows the current MOD WHEEL position.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip, Moose - it did not seem to make any difference if I re-save a preset with or without the global setting ON or OFF it still happens and to other presets too.

I have also confirmed that the mod wheel, once moved, has to be moved all the way back to 'off' to enable the selected effect when next moved. Just 'wiggling' it about a bit in mid-position has no effect.

I will have to power up my Sub37 to compare - just never noticed it before and I am sure I would have.

Ok, so here is an interesting fact...and I have probably answered my own query

Playing with the Sub Editor V1.0 to save the presets stored on the Subsequent I put the mod wheel fully forward and the 'mod wheel' in the editor did not move off the Min position until I returned it to that position and moved it forward again.

So...

1. Select a new preset on the Sub itself (In this case Bank 5 Preset 7 'Dr Lead'
2. Click 'Capture Hardware' on the Editor
3. Move the Sub's Mod Wheel to Max
4. No change in Editor window
5. Click 'Capture Hardware again just to make sure - no change
6. Move the Mod Wheel not the Sub back to Min then mid range
7. Editor now shows wheel in mid-position

Went to Global and changed from Thru to Absolute for the Pots

1. Select a new preset on the Sub itself (In this case Bank 5 Preset 7 'Dr Lead'
2. Click 'Capture Hardware' on the Editor
3. Move the Sub's Mod Wheel to Max
4. Editor showed Max - it tracks from the start !!!

That explains it. I prefer to set to Thru rather than Absolute for the Pots so that touching a front panel control pot does not make a sudden change to the sound. With the Mod Wheel usually set to Min it seems you have to move off Min and back again for the control to then respond when you are set to 'Thru' mode

For presets that were stored with a little Mod Wheel offset mean that as I move the wheel through the stored value no change in the depth of the selected effect is noticed until I move past the stored value.

For example Bank 7 Preset 8 "Dr. Press Growl" starts with 3214 worth of Mod Wheel so immediately responds as I move the mod wheel through that value

yup that sounds like a catch or jump to setting...

ive got a question about modwheels on the SUB 37...

sorry if this is the wrong thread...but im new and i have no idea how to post a new thread...

heres my dilema with the lovely sub 37....

normally the modwheel would control the filter cutoff frequency....so you could use the modwheel like a wah-wah effect...
however on the sub 37....it seems that modwheel only seems to increase and decrease the depth of the modulation for the LFO destination parameters....is not able to just be set to increase or decrease the filter cutoff frequency plain and simple like that....

could this be because your expected to just grab the massively huge filter knob and go crazy....i still wanted to get the modwheel to do this job like just about every other synth ive ever seen..... I personally take these types of problems as personal challenges and i do not rest until i completely explore every possibly answer...

so please someone enlighten me... how can i make my modwheel sweep my filter cutoff??? thanks
