SUB 37 split keyboard DUO patch

Attached is my split keyboard DUO patch.

Below E3, notes are sent only to OSC 2 as a single oscillator bass note. If that note is held and a second note of E3 or above is played, that turns on OSC 1 and uses that to play the high note. When the high note is played/released, it does not affect the held bass note (unlike default DUO behaviour). The mod wheel introduces a chorus effect onto the high note using OSC 1 WAVE.

OCT 2 octave can be changed to alter the bass octave without affecting the melody octave (default OSC 2 octave is 16')

If OSC 1 octave is switched to 4' instead of the default 8', then the pivot note becomes E2 - this allows for a lower bass note if OSC octave 2 is set to 16'

MOD 2 is used to handle the OSC 1 ON on/off kb split using OSC 1 PCH as a source - leaving MOD 1 available to modulate any OSC 1 specific parameters.

I've set the patch so that the MOD WHEEL modulates OSC 1 WAVE, which introduces a nice chorus effect on the melody note.

I don't own any Sub37 but it seems brilliant, really!

If you happen to post a vid... ;)

I've made a quick video (well, more of an audio track with subtitles) showing how it works:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8v0CG-RUM7E

Obviously it doesn't get around the normal paraphonic limitations, so the shared VCF and VCA massively limit the types of sounds that can be used.

Differentiation for the bass/melody can be achieved using any modulation that can be applied to individual oscillators. Automated modulation can be done via MOD 1 eg changing OSC1/2 wave, OSC1/2 level (which can be used to create more complex envelopes than just fixed sustain - using sources like looping FEG), OSC 2 frequency etc.

Very cool! Thanks for sharing. Definitely going to check this out later this evening.

I've just attached a variation of it that uses OSC 1 for bass, so it can have the SUB OSC thickening the bass. MOD WHEEL affects OSC 2 (melody) wave for chorusing. I think this is the better patch.

Forgive the newbiw question, but if I wanted to add preset to the Sub 37, does the file name need to have a corresponding bank and preset number? Any help would be much appreciated.

It doesn't matter what the sysex file is named - the patch name that will appear on your sub 37 is embedded in the sysex dump itself.

Mine were saved as "current presets", so when you "play" them into your sub 37 via your sysex app - I use Sysex Librarian on the mac - it squirts it into the currently selected preset on the sub 37.

That copies the preset into the current preset slot and uses the same name it was saved with by the person who did the patch.
