Would it be possible to have the pitch variance setting saved on or off per patch and not as a global setting. I think this would be more useful as you may not want the effect for all of the patches during a performance.Does anybody here agree ?
Cheers
Sub 37 pitch variance saved to patch not global setting
Re: Sub 37 pitch variance saved to patch not global setting
I always thought it was a bit strange having it as a global setting but to be honest it doesn't bother me. I like it and I'd if was per patch I would have to add it to nearly every patch so for me it works as I want.

I've tried to use this function but it doesn't sound quite natural to me. It seems to randomly pick a static value for each new note somewhere within the variance limit that you set. So one note might have very slight detuning while the next note has a completely different detune value. I could hear it changing when hitting 16ths notes repeatedly. Didn't like it. I do enjoy the detune parameter on the OB-6 though. Seems way more natural even when cranked up a bit.

Re: Sub 37 pitch variance saved to patch not global setting
This is the way analogue synths actually vary. There is a sample and hold circuit that measures the voltage when a key is pressed and holds this voltage for the duration of the note. Therefore every key press will have a slightly different voltage sampled and held and will not drift. Most other implementations are incorrect but utilised because they sound smoother or something. The key to using this in the sub 37 is to use just a tiny amount.
Of course modern analogues use digital key scanning which creates incredibly stable oscillators which variance attempts to overcome

Really? Cause my vintage Minimoog doesn't sound like this at all. It has a smooth, slight drift that is pleasing and never a hard step like what you hear on the Sub when variance is turned on. Even at the most subtle settings.mattyp wrote:This is the way analogue synths actually vary.
Yea, I realized that pretty quick when messing around with it.mattyp wrote:The key to using this in the sub 37 is to use just a tiny amount.
