Sub 37 - Cutoff wigging out around 320Hz

Post by markus201 » Sat Jun 06, 2015 6:57 am

Hey guys

The cutoff on my Sub 37 has started behaving strange.
As I sweep the frequency up and down, it starts randomly jumping to different frequencies.
There is no modulation being sent to the cutoff. I have noticed that if I hold down the knob as i sweep it, it seems to work fine so I'm thinking it's a dodgy potentiometer?

Any ideas?

cheers

Sorry to heat about this. :( It is a known issue and happened to me, too. It is an easy fix, but you'll need to get the Sub37 back to Moog for service.

Damn... I've already had to return it to have a faulty key spring sorted. Don't like the idea of it making two more trips in the hands of couriers

Hi Markus, please, do contribute to the "SN Sub37" thread, in order to collect the maximum of info about sub 37 issues. It'd be very interesting to know your serial number and manufacturing date....

Thanks Pedro,

Yes, it is indeed very interesting to have your contribution to that topic in order to track down if the problem is random/linked to a certain series/appearing with time and so on.

I think the panel pcb has to be changed in order to have the cutoff filter potentiometer replaced by a stronger one.

All the best,

Greg

I had many many problems with this synth and this cut off problem too, they replaced it, but it only last too days.
After 7 month sent back the synth to the shop who changed it for a prophet 12.

Markus,

please try and search for Andy direct address at Moog. He is the guy for all support and problems related stuff. Search here in the forum, Ha has put his refs a couple of times in other similar threads.

Keep faith, the Sub37 is amazing :-).

Hi Guys,

Andy from Moog Tech Support here!!!

My apologies for any long delays in email replies as we have been having a little bit of trouble with our email server.

Also, while we occasionally monitor these forums, we can't feasibly monitor every thread that gets posted.

Please feel free to contact me directly via email at [email protected], or for an urgent matter please call tech support at 1-(828)-251-0090 xt. 221, 217 or 204.

Please tag in the subject line FORUM POST ISSUE so I can easily differentiate it from the hundreds of other inquiries I receive each week, and please flag it as urgent.

In the body of the email, include your Forum User Name so I can easily track back to the original post, and also a link to the forum where you were posting.

My thanks for your patience and understanding.

Thanks,

I had the same issue with my Sub 37. I just sent it in for repair. Unfortunately costing me a little over $70 to ship back!
Mine is serial number 01775.
I only had it for a few months before it started malfunctioning. Hopefully this is the only time I have to do this. I sold my other synths for this one, which is a total bummer because now I dont have a synth to use. I've never had to send in any other new synths for repair so quickly after purchasing them. I do love my Sub37, but I am a little nervous that other pots will start going out next...

As a Moog client I'd like to know the truth about this story!
What is the problem? A set of defective potentiometers? A circuit which forces the cutoff potentiometer to work incorrectly? Why this problem doesn't appear on the sub-phatty or little phatty too? Is there the possibility that in the future this issue will affect the other potentiometers? On the new sub 37 synths are there significant variations on the PCB to solve the problem (it seems like this as reported from some user)?
In my mind this issue is not clear and I'm worried about this (I know that there are many and many more important problems in the life but......anyway...).
I'd like to have a final word from MOOG end not only the great support fron Andy in case of failure. I'd like to know the truth!
Greetings

Hi Sabbathian,

Can you post your characteristics on the Sub 37 SN thread, so we can have a better statistical understanding of the problem(s) one can excpect from the Sub37?

Many thanks,

Greg

Once Again, lot of sub 37 have this problem, and many more problems too, after 8 month I sent it back to the store and change it for a DSI PRO2......good construction, nice keyboard, fantastic sound and possibilities....no more problems
