Is Sub37 and Minitaur Moog overkill?

Friends at the forum.

I have a Sub37 and recently bought a Minitaur, because the price was right. Beyond right, actually, it was spectacular, so even though I had a Sub37, I took no risk - selling the Minitaur might actually earn me a dime, given the generous price.

So anyway. Does anyone here own both? Is it overkill? I won't use them both at the same time, in live situations or similar, but rather only in studio for sequenced stuff. If I bring something live, it will be the Sub37.

So if we look just sonically at the two - are they different enough from each other to warrant owning them both? Does the Minitaur have something going for it, sonically, that the Sub37 don't?

Can never have too much Moog. Since the Sub 37 has such a larger range than the Minitaur, you still can use both very effectively for interesting textural layers.
My real question is do I now want to a second Sub 37? Call me crazy but 'Adam' needs an 'Eve' :D

Hi,
My first Moog was a Minitaur, which sounded so great I soon after picked up a Sub Phatty. When the Sub 37 came out I couldn't resist, thinking I may get rid of the Sub Phatty, but I decided to keep them all - the Minitaur does bass so well, it only takes a few minutes to come up with killer bass sounds on it. The Sub Phatty is brilliant at leads, again the interface makes it simple to dial up some cracking patches, and the Sub 37 is just a beast. So, no, I don't think it's overkill - I imagine you could probably get similar Minitaur type bass sounds from the Sub 37, but not as quickly, and as another poster hinted at, you can't really have too much creamy Moog goodness in your tracks!

You can also use the Minitaur as a 3/4 osc as long as your not playing upper registers. Route it thought the sub37 inputs.

Thanks guys. The Minitaur stays. There's enough reasons to keep it and see what it offers, for now. With the new firmware update, just sequencing it from the Sub37 will probably in itself be legendary awesome.

The very idea!!! As others above have said - you can never have too much Moogness :D

I sneak a bit of my Minitaur into the external input of my Sub37 to, somewhat, fatten up a bass sound beyond the capabilities of just using the Sub Oscillator on the Sub37 :D

Hello,
As others, i use the MT as a 3/4 OSC in the lower scale or alone for bass when the Sub37 is used in higher scale.
Never tested the poly-chain with these 2 ... did someone used it ?

Lot of good vibes on this forum :) thanks for your replies, guys. I've basically gone from most likely to sell my Minitaur to absolutely keeping it.

Besides, my daugher loves the way it looks and keeps twisting the knobs and cheering whenever she finds a sound she likes. Which you constantly do on a Moog.

Seriously, I own a Tempest as well. It's a wonderful sounding instrument, but there's lots of places you can go with that piece of gear, where it just sounds awful or weird.

With a Moog, it seems you can't go wrong. Whatever comes out of it sounds good and is useful. It's just a matter of context.
