Sub 37 with Big Sky reverb: audio example

Post by JonLukas » Thu Sep 04, 2014 9:50 pm

For those wondering about the smoother, mellower sounds of the Sub 37, here is a little solo improv I did, with the Strymon Big Sky reverb playing a big role.

It's a flute-like (or oboe-like) patch I created, and the Big Sky is set to the Bloom mode.

Sounds great.

I created a trio of simple tests with the Sub 37 and the Strymon El Capistan delay (and some Blue Sky).

Hey JonLukas,

I like your patch! I have a Sub Phatty and would like to recreate that sound. Any chance you could share the key settings?

I don't remember all the particulars, but I had a Mod-wheel controlled LFO altering the filter (and wave shape of one or both oscillators, I think), and the second LFO doing a slow subtle modulation of the filter (and maybe the wave shapes of one of the oscillators). I used a little bit of multi drive. There is no sub osc or noise. My approach is pretty much in line with the approaches on this thread: http://forum.moogmusic.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=22143

A huge part of this sound is the reverb. If you're computer-based, I 'd recommend you look at the reverbs from Valhalla DSP: http://www.valhalladsp.com/valhallaroom . Reverbs like Valhalla Room will make a huge difference in creating sounds like this. There are probably other reverbs that would also work great.
