inside the Sub37...easy to change the LEDs?

hi all, has anyone opened up their precious Sub37? i am really keen to change the 16x preset LEDs from the standard yellow like the rest of the lights on the front to a red LED. just wandering if the LEDs are surface mount ones or part of the buttons or if they are just standard mini LEDs that can be swapped out? anyone been daring enough to void their warranty and open their Sub37 up yet?

(or am i going to be the first.. hehe)

Cheers,
Blackout

I would be glad to change this too! I realy don't like these yellow leds, too ugly for me

Anything but blue for me thanks! Yellow on black is nice but red would take it to the next level!

i don't know, i think those yellow leds on a black panel look just gorgeous.

i only wish the lcd was yellow, too, instead of that unhealthy-looking off-white color.
perhaps even a nice and contrasty yellow on black oled.

so, if anybody opens theirs to see if the leds can be easily exchanged - please also have a look if that lcd is socketed and can be easily exchanged.

LEDs are all individual surface-mount parts, easy enough to swap if you have the right tools to work on SMD. They are 0805 size, I think.

Displays are not as simple to swap out as LEDs; you'd need to do some research to find out what was a compatible part, responded to the firmware the same, etc.

DemonDan modded his display by putting a piece of colored gel over it, the kind that gets used for theatre/stage lighting. He said it looks pretty nifty. :)

Maybe he could post a picture of the mod and what gel color he used? Please? :)

Just go to a local signmaker and ask if you can have a small offcut of some translucent vinyl. Most will just give you a piece if you ask nicely.

de-soldering and re-soldering SMD led chips are ...not easy. I can do it, but i can screw it up easily too. i will have to really think about this....i want to do it so badly tho! just seeing a different color LED on stage for the patch change buttons will make it easier to reach for them in the dark, as well as it looking totally cool. I just want RED. hmmmm

hi egg...i did see your comment i thought it was in relation to making the display backlight a different color. Generally primary colors dont like being changed to other primarys with gels. but its probably worth a shot before option B of desoldering is undertaken
