Sub Phatty won't work with Librarian (hardware Disconnected)

Post by bradtyler » Thu Oct 03, 2013 12:39 pm

Can anyone please help? . I spent money on buying a USB cable long enough, but i cannot get it to work. It's a 3m long USB 2 cable. Is this incorrect or am i doing something wrong? TBH I'm a little annoyed that there was a) no cable supplied and B) no reference as to the type of cable (USB 1, 2 or 3). At least not that I could find. Can someone please help? is just says 'hardware disconnected' in the editor window

The 3m usb 2 cable should be fine. Check that you have the most recent version of the firmware installed. If you are connecting with a USB hub try it without the hub and see if it works.

Thanks for your reply! Sadly it just won't work, even using a different USB cable :( how can I update the firmware without connecting to the computer? Btw it's connected directly into my iMac (no USB HUB) :( I only just got the Phatty so I imagine it's the latest firmware.... Very frustrating indeed :(

A new version of the firmware was just released a few weeks ago so it's very likely that your Sub Phatty does not have the most recent version. You can download the latest from the Moog site. There should be a utility included that is used to perform the update. It's possible that the utility can connect to the Sub Phatty while the editor can't. I' use Windows so I can't help much with Mac specific issues.

Can you explain exactly what you did from A-Z in connecting your Sub Phatty to the computer? There could have been a step you missed.

Basically i simply plugged the USB cable into the Sub Phatty, then into my iMac, booted up the Editor and tried using it, but it just says Hardware Disconnected in the Librarian. and none of the buttons/dials etc do anything. (This is in the standalone editor btw). I just can't figure out how to get it to connect with the Sub Phatty. I really appreciate all your help with this.

use a different, short, new Belkin 1m USB cable.

reboot.

use a different USB port on your computer

reboot.

Make sure if its a laptop that it is running on AC wall power.

reboot.

reinstall the editor.

reboot.

use a different computer

reboot.

still nothing?

Check if it works in standalone mode (not with the vsti).
IMO It's not an issue with the usb cable.
I have the same problem here. I was part of the beta test. Standalone version works fine but not the VST version.
I am using Ableton live 9 with Win XP SP3.
It works fine on my laptop with Win 7.

In your description of what you did, you did not mention clicking on Preferences and selecting the Sub Phatty as your MIDI input/output device.
Did you do that?
(prefs button is on the editor main screen)
If not, it would explain why it's not connected...
