Moog Voyager OS : Fake Wood / Laminate ! ..arrgghh...

Post by tompisa » Thu Jan 29, 2009 6:33 pm

Guys. I just read the SOS review about the Moog OS and they are telling that the MOOG chassis is manufactured with a wood faking Laminate :

"Looking closely you`ll see that the panel is actually a printed laminate affair similar to those seen on Dave Smith´s recent instruments"

SOS/ dec 2008

I thought the Moog is true analog , the material too ?

PS: and please don´t try to argue that Laminate is much better because of it´s stiffness and so ... ;-)

I just hate fake stuff !

I don't believe that.

Are you sure they are not referring to the PANEL and not the wood cabinetry?

I mean why get to choose a wood cabinet just for it to be fake wood.

I don't buy it.

Oh maybe you are right, but I guess a "printed laminate" would be translated -in German- as "Fake Wood" . I do hope I am wrong !!

Maybe a MOOG guy can clear hings up here ?

from the moog website:
.The MINIMOOG® VOYAGER® OS has a hinged, multi-position panel and a solid hardwood cabinet.

the laminate refers to the panel i believe, not the wood. the advertisement says a solid hardwood cabinet.

DSI instruments are "Fake wood"?

Sorry, but that is nonsense. My Prophet '08 has slabs of real lumber at the side. I buy wood every day for a living, and this is real wood. Not a bad pair of pieces either.

I didn't see this posted here on this thread. I have seen a Prophet 08 up close, and that is some very nice wood they use. They do use a laminate on the front panel, though.

Oops, I misread that. You're right... they were referring to the front panel and I interpreted it to mean the end cheeks.

The word "panel" sure does cause a lot of confusion. I find it rather amusing, myself. Read the thread from start to finish, and you'll see what I mean.
