Hi Leonardo,

thanx for giving me the excellent analysis of the sound!!! Brilliant!!

I know that I can't copy the sound exactly, but I want to come as near as possible with the MINI or any other synth I own...
(i.e. Yamaha Motif latest rack Version, Roland U220, Roland D50, Kork M1, Korg M3, Roland JV 880)

The MINI is - in my opinion - the most suitable tool. I've got the new version, not the one from the 70's. (in fact I had one, but I had to sell it due to former financial probs... How stupid I was!!!) When I got the new MM, I first checked the trumpet patch from the old Minimoog patch book, but it's quite far away from the FoF sound.

I'm looking forward for further contact

Yours
Peter
p.s. If I find an appropiate sound, I will tell you...

:) Hard to tell, but I'll try. I'll try to leave jazzrock/fusion outside this list, although I think it's sometimes hard to distinguish these genres. But I suppose the german Krautrock genre and the sub genre space rock do fit in?

No particular order, but here's my 10 (from memory), but there's of course many more that could be listed instead of these....

1. Firth of fifth, genesis (of course)
2. Elegy, Colosseum
3. Nine feet underground, Caravan
4. Pete Brown & Piblokto - art school dance....whole album
5. The endless Enigma, ELP, well the whole album actually
6. Dark side of the moog, Colosseum II
7. Rosalie, Frumpy
8. Pavane, Brian Auger & Trinity
9. Losing hold, Wigwam
10. Angels egg, Gong (whole album)

From your list I especially like: Pavane; The Endless Enigma, Rosalie and Elegy...... As my favourites are classical composers from Bach to Bartok (see The Barbarion) and all kinds of rock music.
With my band I play: Toccata and fugue d minor (Bach), From the New World (Dvorak), Bouree (Bach) - Ode to Joy (Beethoven) and Hallelujah (Händel) are our present projects, which have to be finished in the near future.
All pieces are new arrangements by the band.

So jazzrock/Fusion is not my genre. There were some pieces I liked, but I've forgotten the titles - Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett, Weather Report (Birdland) and Herbie Hancock were my favourites.

Of course there are lots of excellent titles that I didn't mention, cause you asked for my Top ten....

Let's keep in contact!!

Peter

Hi, I am currently recording my own version of Firth of Fifth in Logic Pro, using all MIDI/software instruments, and am also struggling to find a sound I like. However, I prefer the sound of the synth solo in the Seconds Out version. Can anyone advise how to get this sound in Logic?
Thanks
Robin

In later performances the solo was played on many other synths with v e r y different sounds, but I'm looking for the special patch played on SELLING ENGLAND..

Maybe I'll give it a shot this weekend. If I have any luck, I'll post the settings!

One of my alltime fave tunes & solos too.
