Voyager LCD just broke! :'-(

Post by AvMjr » Tue Dec 29, 2020 7:15 pm

A microphone stand just fell over my dear old Voyager in my studio and broke the little LCD display! :'-( I've emailed Moog to see if they might have this particular part in stock, but has anyone here ever seen that replacement part available anywhere? Do you think it could be fixed? I'm so sad this happened and hope to be able to replace it with a new one.

Sorry to hear the accident with your Voyager. When my Voyager was new I tripped on a cord before a concert connected to my laptop that fell over it. Some minor scratches, normally not much to feel bad about but when it was brand new not that exciting. Today I can’t tell where those scratches were.

DigiKey part number NHD-12864WG-BTFH-V#N-ND

the contrast of this black and white display is much better.

Many thanks for your kind replies! I've contacted Syntaur who unfortunately didn't have the part, but they've asked Moog as well. I took a look at that DigiKey part too, and it looks interesting. Would a professional service technician outside of Moog be able to change this part, you think? I mean, is it a fairly uncomplicated procedure?

Furthermore, do you think there's a risk of damaging the Voyager further if I keep using it when the LCD is broken? I mean, there's a liquid inside the LCD, right? Is there a chance that this liquid can leak from the broken LCD and spread to the other components, potentially shortcutting other parts of the synth when it's turned on?

Hi AvMjr,
a good tech should have no problem to replace this LCD.
Where are you located?

Great, I'm located in Norway. Have you tried this particular LCD screen yourself? The one that you linked to? Would I need to order any additional cables etc.?

Hi Rudi. Any recommendations on a technician to replace a Voyager RME screen with a better quality screen? I am in NYC.
